Savaria In-Situ recline sling, looped hip tapes, item M921507

Item M921507 is the Savaria In-Situ recline sling, made by Silvalea in Silva-Superfine Plus with looped hip tapes. It supports a closed-leg full-body transfer and is applied in a supine position.

What does it do and how does it work?

It supports the body from the shoulders to the legs and stays under the person during the transfer.

• The closed-leg design gives full-body support, with a padded roll under the legs and a pommel strap for stability.
• Fixed colour-coded loop tapes take the hoist; loops are also supplied for the hip tapes.
• Soft binding runs around the edges, and the sling can stay in situ after the transfer, subject to a risk assessment.
• It is rated 272 kg (600 lb) and made from Silva-Superfine Plus, a polyester spacer fabric.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It suits a person who needs a closed-leg full-body transfer, including some amputee scenarios.

• A competent person trained in sling fitting assesses the suitability and the size.
• For a toileting transfer, a sling with a commode opening is a different shape.
• For a mesh sling, the mesh option is a different fabric in the same range.

Will it fit?

Six sizes cover extra small to XXL: M921507-XS, M921507-S, M921507-M, M921507-L, M921507-XL and M921507-XXL.

• The medium fits a shoulder circumference of 38 to 42.5 in (96 to 108 cm) and a C7 to back-of-knee length of 41 to 45.75 in (104 to 116 cm).

Using it day to day

Apply the sling in a supine position and attach the colour-coded loop tapes to the hoist bar.

• Use the hip tapes as the maker describes, and check that the loops are fully seated.
• Check the tapes, material and label before each use; remove a frayed or illegible sling from use.
• Check the safe working load of the hoist and the sling on their labels before lifting.
• A free home assessment can check the hoist and the sling at home.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

It is a loop-tape sling, not a clip sling.

• Wash at 71 C (159 F); tumble dry low at 50 C maximum; no iron; use a non-biological detergent.
• Close the hook-and-loop fastenings before washing and when stored.
