Description
The Handicare ReadyBelt, item 16024, is the medium SystemRoMedic support belt. A caregiver uses it at the waist to help someone stand, move a short distance, or practise walking.
What does it do and how does it work?
Fixed handles replace a grip on clothing. The belt supports a person who can take some weight. It is not a lifting device.
- Blue polyester, 47.2 in (120 cm) long and 3.9 in (10 cm) wide, with 9 vertical and horizontal handles.
- The non-slip inside keeps it from riding up. The clasp opens, closes, and tightens below the waist and above the hips.
- Cross-grips at the back let one caregiver stand close, or two caregivers stand one on each side.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- For a person of about 110-165 lb (50-75 kg) who needs a steadying hand to stand, transfer a short distance, or walk.
- Not for someone who cannot bear weight. Do not use ReadyBelt to lift.
- Outside that weight band, choose another size. Nobody should pass the 331 lb (150 kg) safe working load.
Will it fit?
Item 16024 is the medium. Its size guide is 110-165 lb (50-75 kg), and the safe working load is 331 lb (150 kg) on every size.
- Place it below the waist and above the hips, then tighten the clasp.
- We confirm the size before you order. Small and large use different item numbers.
Using it day to day
- One caregiver holds the cross-grips. With two, each stands at one side, holds a back grip, and holds the person's hand at the front.
- Do not leave the person unattended while they are moving. Loosen the straps, then open the clasp, to take the belt off.
- After washing, check seams, fabric, and handles. Retire a worn or faded belt. No fabric softener, and avoid the tumble dryer.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
Use it for sit-to-stand, bed to wheelchair, wheelchair to toilet, and gait practice. It does not attach to a lift.
- A person of 200 lb is over the medium guide. Look at the large, still under 331 lb (150 kg).
- Pull-test the handles before the next use. Discard the belt if a seam or the inside grip has failed.
Which version should I choose?
- Small, item 16023: 41.3 in (105 cm), 7 handles, 55-121 lb (25-55 kg).
- Medium, item 16024: 47.2 in (120 cm), 9 handles, 110-165 lb (50-75 kg).
- Large, item 16025: 55.1 in (140 cm), 11 handles, 154-242 lb (70-110 kg).
How does it compare?
- EasyBelt, item 6014 is the waist belt with a wipe-clean non-slip inside for damp rooms.
- FlexiBelt hug uses handles that slide in loops so the belt stays down.
- A simpler walking belt, without this set of handles, is in the transfer gait belts.
Frequently asked questions
Where do the cross-grips sit?
At the back. One caregiver holds them and stands close.
Can it lift someone who cannot stand?
No. ReadyBelt is not a lifting aid. If the person cannot take weight through their legs, use a lift and a sling.
Can I use fabric softener or a hot dryer?
No fabric softener. Avoid the tumble dryer. The sewn label carries the wash temperature.
