Description
The Handicare WendyLett2Way draw sheet, item 1620, is a white sheet, 90 x 180 cm (35 x 70 in), used with a WendyLett sliding sheet to turn a person in bed.
What does it do and how does it work?
It is the top layer of a two-part system: the sliding sheet underneath lets the draw sheet move, and the carer pulls the draw sheet to turn the person.
- This size is white. Sliding is sideways, across the bed.
- It is for turning and lateral repositioning, not for moving a person up or down the bed.
- Tucking it under the mattress on both sides stops it gliding between moves.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It suits a person who needs help to turn in bed and a carer who wants to reduce the strain of manual handling.
- It works with a WendyLett sliding sheet underneath; the two are sold separately.
- For up and down the bed, or a heavier person, the WendyLett4Way is the draw sheet to choose.
- It is not a lifting sling; use a patient lift and sling to lift.
Will it fit?
The sheet is 90 cm (35 in) wide and 180 cm (70 in) long, and it is rated 300 kg (660 lb).
- It is sized for a bed 80 to 120 cm (32 to 48 in) wide and 100 to 210 cm (40 to 83 in) long.
- Check the bed width and the mattress before ordering.
Using it day to day
Place the sliding sheet smooth side up in the middle of the bed, then lay the WendyLett2Way on top.
- Grasp the draw sheet at the shoulders and hips, taking a lot of fabric, and pull with straight wrists.
- Two carers can turn together: one pulls the sheet while the other presses near the shoulder and hip and pushes.
- After the turn, smooth the bedding and tuck the draw sheet under the mattress on both sides. Raise the bed rails before leaving the person.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
The limit is 300 kg (660 lb).
- Wash at 90 C (194 F) with a normal detergent, do not add fabric softener, and hang dry or tumble dry low.
- Inspect seams and fabric after every wash, and discard the sheet if it is worn, faded or torn.
How does it compare?
- Patient lift slings for lifting, which a draw sheet cannot do.
- Positioning belts for holding a person in a chair.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work without a sliding sheet?
No. The sliding sheet is the gliding layer; the WendyLett2Way is the draw sheet that sits on top.
Can it move a person up the bed?
No. It is for turning and lateral moves; the WendyLett4Way handles up and down the bed.
Can one carer use it?
Yes, and two carers can share the turn: one pulls while the other presses near the shoulder and hip.
