Description
The Travel Buggy Aerolux is a carbon-fibre folding power chair that cross-folds into a 9 in wide package. It weighs 29 lb (13.2 kg) without its battery and carries a rider up to 300 lb (136 kg).
Who does the Aerolux suit?
- A rider within the 300 lb limit who needs a portable chair for outings and has someone able to lift it.
- A rider who wants a simple folding frame; the one-size seat has no tilt, recline or size adjustment.
- The Aerolux 2C is the newer model; this original remains a run-out chair while quantities last.
How does it fold?
- Fold the push handles down 90 degrees, fold both footrests up, pull the two handles under the seat, then press the armrests together to close the frame.
- Folded it is 31 x 9 x 28 in; open it is 39 x 21 x 35 in.
- The carbon frame has folding footrests, flip-back armrests, shock absorbers and anti-tip wheels.
Will it fit the rider and car?
- The cushion is 16.5 by 16 in, with 19 in between the armrests and a 16 in back; check hip width and transfer.
- It sits 19.5 in off the floor, with no seat width or depth choice.
- Plan the lift as 29 lb for the chair plus a 3.5 lb battery; assembled it is 32 lb.
- Obstacle clearance is 1.5 in; anti-tip wheels and front shocks do not make it an off-road chair.
How does it drive?
- Two 250 W brushless hub motors in the 11 in rear wheels, with 6.5 in non-puncture front wheels.
- Top speed is 6 km/h (3.7 mph), with electromagnetic brakes and a freewheel mode for pushing.
- The 24 V 10 Ah (240 Wh) battery gives up to 18 km (11.2 miles); a second battery in the second bay raises the maker claim to about 20 miles (32 km).
Battery and charging
- The removable battery charges on or off the chair with the supplied charger.
- Charge 4-6 hours to a green light; never more than 8 hours.
- Charge only between 0 and 45 C, never a frozen battery, and keep the pack away from fire, heat and water.
- For storage, leave it at about 50%, remove it from the chair, keep it at 5-20 C and top it to 50% every six months.
Using it safely
- Fasten the lap belt before driving and do not carry a passenger.
- There is no occupied-transport approval: transfer to a vehicle seat and secure the folded chair.
- Use freewheel only on level ground with control; the brakes are released.
- Do not step on the footplate when getting in or out, and keep the seat locked.
Warranty and funding
- Warranty is 5 years frame, 2 years motors, 1 year control system and battery, 90 days wear parts; parts only, labour extra. See the Warranty tab.
- Funding may help: see who may help pay.
How does it compare?
- The Jazzy Carbon is another folding chair, and the Jazzy Air 2 raises its seat on a full-size base.
