Description

The Drive Medical NRS185008 is a bariatric aluminum shower commode: a 22 in (56 cm) wide chair rated 500 lbs (227 kg), for the shower, the toilet or its own bucket.

What does it do and how does it work?

  • Three uses: over a standard toilet, as a commode with the bucket, or as a shower chair.
  • Seat 22 by 17.1 in (56 by 43 cm), padded, with an opening, a removable insert and a padded back.
  • Padded flip-back arms for side transfers.
  • Height: leg extensions set the seat 20.5 to 22.4 in (52 to 57 cm) above the floor.
  • Four 5 in (13 cm) locking casters; swing-away detachable footrests, height and angle adjustable.
  • Rust-resistant aluminum frame, tool-free assembly, and a bucket with a cover under the seat.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It suits a person up to 500 lbs (227 kg) who needs a commode and shower chair in one, with a bathroom wide enough for the 26 in (66 cm) frame.

Choose the NRS185007 for a smaller user, a tilt chair if the person cannot sit upright, or a stationary bariatric commode if it need not roll.

Will it fit?

  • Overall width 26 in (66 cm): measure the narrowest doorway and the turn.
  • Seat 22 in (56 cm) wide by 17.1 in (43 cm) deep; check both against the person and the route.
  • Seat height 20.5 to 22.4 in (52 to 57 cm).
  • Over a toilet, the bowl and tank must fit inside the frame legs, with the toilet seat down. A free home assessment can measure the bathroom.

Using it day to day

  • Assembly: casters into the frame with each E clip through its leg hole, footrests turned into the front legs, back poles locked with the knobs.
  • Set the footplate angle with the allen key; footrests fold up and inward.
  • Lock the casters before sitting or standing; push the arms back and use them for balance only.
  • Take the cover off the bucket, empty it after use, and use liners.
  • Wipe the padded parts.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

  • 500 lbs (227 kg), for sitting; it is not a standing aid.
  • It is not a transport chair; do not wheel someone through the house.
  • Users with limited physical strength should be supervised or assisted.
  • Do not put full body weight on the arms.
  • Check each E clip shows through its leg hole before use.
  • Limited lifetime warranty, casters excluded; see the Warranty tab.

How does it compare?
