ProBasics transfer bench with backrest, item BSTB

The ProBasics Transfer Bench, item BSTB, straddles the bathtub: two legs stand inside the tub and two on the floor, so you sit down outside the tub and slide across instead of stepping over the wall. The seat is 25 in (63.5 cm) wide and 16 in (40.6 cm) deep, and the bench is rated 300 lb (136 kg).

What does it do and how does it work?

• Frame: anodized aluminum, corrosion proof.
• Seat and back: blow-moulded, textured, with drainage holes.
• Legs: push-button adjustment in 1 in (2.5 cm) steps, tool-free; set the outside legs, then the inside legs.
• Backrest: adjustable, and it lifts out to move to either end for a left or right hand entry.
• Feet: wide-based non-skid tips with suction cups.
• Footprint: 28.5 by 17.5 in (72.4 by 44.5 cm).

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

• It suits someone who can sit and stand but cannot step over the tub wall safely.
• Choose a bath board if the person can step into the tub unaided, or a bath lift if the seat has to lift them.
• Choose the Drive padded transfer bench if a cushioned seat matters.
• The rating is for sitting, not standing.

Will it fit?

• The seat sets from 19 to 23 in (48.3 to 58.4 cm) above the floor.
• The inside legs need a flat tub floor, and the tub wall must sit lower than the seat.
• Measure the space beside the tub against the 28.5 by 17.5 in (72.4 by 44.5 cm) footprint.

Using it day to day

• Set the outside legs, then the inside legs, so the seat sits level.
• Lift the backrest out and fit it at the other end when the entry side changes.
• Sit down outside the tub and slide across; do not stand on the seat.
