Description
The Drive BP2116 is a wrist blood pressure monitor: it measures systolic and diastolic pressure and pulse at the wrist, and keeps 120 dated readings. It is for people 12 years and older and is licensed by Health Canada (medical device licence 105780).
What does it do and how does it work?
- Cuff: attached to the monitor, for a wrist 13.5 to 21.5 cm (5.3 to 8.5 in) around.
- Measurement: pressure 0 to 300 mmHg and pulse 30 to 180 beats per minute, by the oscillometric method.
- Display: LCD 45 x 30 mm, showing pressure, pulse, date, the classification indicator and low battery.
- Memory: 120 readings with date and time, one list.
- Power: two AAA alkaline batteries; about 2 months at three readings a day.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- Wrist versus upper arm: Hypertension Canada recommends a wrist monitor only for someone who cannot fit an upper-arm cuff. If an arm cuff fits, use the Drive BP3400 upper-arm monitor. This model is not on the Hypertension Canada list.
- Heart rhythm problems: not recommended for severe arrhythmia; ask a doctor first for atrial fibrillation or frequent premature beats.
- Other conditions: ask a doctor first for pregnancy, a pacemaker, a weak pulse, diabetes, liver disease, arteriosclerosis or poor circulation.
- Where not to use it: over a wound, a limb with an IV or shunt, or a mastectomy side; not for infants or anyone who cannot express their wishes.
Will it fit?
- Wrist circumference 13.5 to 21.5 cm (5.3 to 8.5 in).
- Wrap it on bare skin, monitor on the palm side, cuff edge 1 to 2 cm (0.4 to 0.8 in) from the hand.
- Hold the wrist at heart level and sit still. Do not measure standing up.
Using it day to day
- Do not eat, exercise or bathe for 30 minutes before a reading; rest 5 minutes first.
- Do not talk or move during the reading, and wait 3 minutes before testing again. Compare the same wrist, position and time of day.
- Set the date and time with the monitor off; M changes each value and scrolls the memory.
- If stored below 0 C, warm it about 15 minutes or the cuff may not inflate.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- Accuracy: the maker states cuff pressure ±3 mmHg or ±2% of the reading above 200 mmHg, and pulse ±5%. Share readings with your doctor; the monitor does not diagnose.
- Care: wipe the monitor with a soft cloth and mild detergent; wipe the cuff with rubbing alcohol, then a damp cloth, and air dry, never soak. Check performance every 2 years.
- Warranty: 2 years from purchase, not transferable.
- In the box: the monitor with its cuff, a storage case and the manual. Have two AAA alkaline ready, as they may not come in the box.

Warranty details
Drive Medical warrants the Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor, Wrist Model (BP2116) to be free from defects in workmanship and materials for two years from the original purchase date.
- Remedy: Drive Medical replaces or repairs a unit that its inspection finds defective within the two years.
- Not transferable to a later purchaser or owner.
- Abuse, use other than as the manual describes, negligence, accident or repairs by anyone other than a Drive Medical authorized service professional void the warranty.
- Labour, parts or expenses for field repairs are not covered.
