Description
The Drive BP3400 is an automatic upper arm blood pressure monitor: it inflates a cuff around the upper arm and shows systolic pressure, diastolic pressure and pulse on an extra-large screen. It is licensed by Health Canada (medical device licence 105441).
What does it do and how does it work?
- Cuff: medium, for an upper arm 22 to 36 cm (8.6 to 14.2 in) around.
- Display: extra-large LCD, 84.1 x 55.1 mm.
- Memory: 120 readings with date and time, two groups of 60, plus the average of the last three.
- Indicators: WHO colour bar and irregular heartbeat symbol.
- Range: pressure 0 to 300 mmHg; pulse 30 to 180 per minute.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It is for people 12 years and older, measured on an adult upper arm.
- An arm over 36 cm: the included cuff will not fit; a bariatric cuff for 32 to 45 cm is sold separately.
- An IV line, shunt, wound or mastectomy side: do not use the cuff there. After a double mastectomy, use the least dominant arm.
- Arrhythmia, a pacemaker, diabetes, a circulation problem or pregnancy: doctor first; not recommended for severe arrhythmia.
- Hypertension Canada: no Drive monitor is on its list.

Using it day to day
- Fit four AA batteries or the BP2610 adapter, plug the cuff into the left side, and press START/STOP.
- Sit for 5 minutes, back and arm supported, feet flat, legs uncrossed, cuff 1 to 2 cm above the elbow at heart level.
- Do not talk or move during a reading; wait 3 minutes before retesting.
- Set the date and time with SET and M; M also switches memory group.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- Power: four AA batteries, or the BP2610 adapter (6 V DC, 600 mA), sold separately; use only the recommended adapter.
- Care: soft cloth and mild detergent on the unit; rubbing alcohol and a damp cloth on the cuff; never soak it.
- Accuracy: cuff pressure ±3 mmHg or ±2% of the reading above 200 mmHg, and pulse ±5%, within ANSI/AAMI SP10.
- Warranty: two years from purchase, replacement of a defective unit; not transferable.
- Readings: share them with your doctor; the monitor does not diagnose.
How does it compare?
- Drive BP2116 wrist monitor: for an arm that will not fit an upper arm cuff; it is not on the Hypertension Canada list either.
- Drive fingertip pulse oximeter: reads oxygen and pulse, not blood pressure.
Funding and returns

Are batteries included?
The box holds the monitor, the medium cuff, a storage bag and the owner's manual. The AC adapter is not in the box.
Which arm should I use?
The quick start uses the left arm; either works if you compare the same one each time. Never use the mastectomy side; after a double mastectomy, use the least dominant arm.
Can two people use it?
Yes. Each person takes one memory group of 60 readings, kept dated and separate.

Warranty details
Drive Medical warrants the Deluxe Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor, Upper Arm (model BP3400) to be free from defects in workmanship and materials for two years from the original purchase date.
- Remedy: Drive Medical replaces a unit that its inspection finds defective within the two years.
- Send a copy of the receipt and a clear description of the defect with the unit.
- Not transferable to a later purchaser or owner.
- Abuse, use other than as the manual describes, negligence, accident or outside repairs void the warranty.
