Description
The Drive Pressure-Sensitive Chair and Bed Patient Alarm (item 13605) is a chair alarm kit: an alarm box joined by a cord to a chair-size pressure pad. When the person's weight leaves the pad, the alarm sounds and its light flashes. It does not prevent a fall.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Pad: a pressure-sensitive chair pad, plugged into the alarm.
- Alarm: Off, Low 85 dB or High 100 dB; the light flashes as it sounds.
- Timing: one beep when the alarm first senses weight; the alarm continues after weight leaves until the person returns or it is switched off.
- Low battery: the light flashes and the box beeps once every 30 seconds.
- Nurse call: a jack on the alarm takes a nurse-call cable, sold separately.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It is for family or staff within earshot of someone who should not stand or wander alone.
- Watching the person: it does not replace routine visual checks.
- Warning before they stand: it cannot do that; it sounds after the weight leaves the pad.
- A wireless pager or phone alert: this kit has neither; a caregiver must hear the box or use the nurse-call cable.
- A bed: this is the chair kit. The same alarm unit works with Drive's bed pad (13610PL) or the bed kit (13606).
Will it fit?
- It suits a chair or wheelchair. Lay the pad across the seat, on top of any cushion.
- Mount the box low on the back of the chair, out of the person's reach, with the cord clear of wheels and moving parts.
- The pad is single-patient use and chair size. A replacement chair pad is item 13610PS.
Using it day to day
- Test before every use: press the pad for 3 seconds and release; the alarm should sound. Test again if the box is dropped.
- Do not use it if the test stays silent, and check the pad and cord for damage each time.
- Wipe the unit with a standard disinfectant; do not immerse it. Remove it from a wheelchair before washing the chair.
- Do not bend, roll, fold or soak the pad; store it flat and replace it if torn or soiled.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- Noise: the alarm is extremely loud. Do not point it at anyone or place it near the person's ear; hearing loss can result.
- Warranty: 1 year limited for the original buyer; wear parts are excluded.
- Accessories: the 136DC plug-in adapter, the nurse-call cable, a replacement chair pad (13610PS) and a bed pad (13610PL) are separate items.
How does it compare?
- Drive tri-fold fall mat or PrimeMat 2.0: a mat softens a landing; it does not alarm, and it does not stop a fall.
- This kit is in our patient alarm range; mats are under fall mats.
Returns and delivery
Opened hygienic items cannot be returned: see the return policy. We deliver across Toronto and the GTA.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use this chair kit on a bed?
Not with this pad. Add the bed pad 13610PL or order the bed kit 13606; on a bed the box goes toward the foot, clear of the side rails.
Can it connect to a nurse call system?
Yes, with a nurse-call cable sold separately. Ask the facility which plug it uses before ordering.
Is the alarm a restraint?
No. It has no belt or lock; it sounds once weight leaves the pad.
