Drive PrimeMat 2.0 Impact Reduction Fall Mats - PM20BA

The Drive PrimeMat 2.0 Impact Reduction Fall Mat (Drive item PM20BA, brown) is a thin, one-piece bedside fall mat that lies on the floor next to the bed of someone who may roll or slip out of it, so a fall lands on foam rather than bare floor. At three quarters of an inch, it is low enough for an overbed table or a patient lift to roll across its tapered edges. It suits a bedroom at home or in a care home. It cannot stop a fall and does not guarantee against injury.

Description

The Drive PrimeMat 2.0 (PM20BA, brown) is a thin one-piece fall mat for the floor beside a bed. It reduces the impact of a fall; it cannot stop a fall and does not guarantee against injury.

What does it do and how does it work?

  • Core: moulded polyurethane foam, 210 kg per cubic metre (about 13 lb per cubic foot).
  • Top: embossed non-slip PVC in a leather look, puncture resistant.
  • Underside: anti-slip netting.
  • Edges: low and tapered, so overbed tables and patient lifts roll over them.
  • Test: an egg dropped 5 feet in Drive's test landed undamaged. That is a material test, not an injury figure.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It suits someone who may roll or slip out of bed, at home or in a care home.

  • Stopping a fall: a mat cannot. A bed alarm alerts staff but does not prevent a fall either.
  • A thicker mat that folds: the Drive Tri-Fold fall mat is 2 in thick and folds in three.
  • Grey: the same mat in grey is item PM20GA, sold separately.

Will it fit?

The mat is 70 in long, 24 in wide and 0.75 in thick (178 x 61 x 1.9 cm).

  • One mat covers one open side of the bed; two are needed if both sides are open.
  • The taper lets an overbed table or patient lift roll over it.

Using it day to day

  • Place it alongside the bed, embossed pattern and logo up, netting down.
  • Tell family carers and night staff that it is there, so they do not trip.
  • Inspect it before and during use. Do not use it if the cover has holes or tears, because the foam can hold moisture and bacteria.
  • Wipe it with mild soap or organic cleanser and water.
  • Disinfect with 0.1 percent sodium hypochlorite (1000 ppm) or a diluted quaternary or phenolic wipe. No abrasives or Betadine; air dry fully; wear gloves.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

  • Impact only: it softens a landing; it does not stop a fall or guarantee against trauma.
  • Warranty: 1 year limited to the original buyer, covering materials and workmanship. Misuse, negligence, wear and non-durable parts are excluded.

How does it compare?

Returns and delivery

Used mats cannot be returned: see the return policy and warranty services. We deliver across Toronto and the GTA.

Frequently asked questions

Does the mat stop a fall?

No. It reduces the impact of a fall from bed; it does not stop the fall or guarantee against injury.

Is it 70 or 72 inches long?

It is 70 in long, 24 in wide and 0.75 in thick.

Can a patient lift roll over it?

Yes. The edge is low and tapered, and Drive names overbed tables and patient lifts as the equipment that rolls over it.

How do I disinfect it?

Use 0.1 percent sodium hypochlorite (1000 ppm) or a diluted quaternary or phenolic wipe, then air dry. No abrasives or Betadine.
