Drive Medical padded U-sling with head support, 13220 series

The Drive Medical 13220 is a padded U-sling with head support for a full lift, not a standing transfer.

What does it do and how does it work?

Leg loops cross under the thighs. The head support stays with the person as the cradle lifts them.

• Four padded loops hook on, one side of the sling to each side of the cradle.
• The body is solid polyester, padded.
• Fold it behind the back, roll the person onto it, draw each loop under a thigh, and cross the loops.
• Stop just clear of the mattress. A self-levelling cradle brings them up to sitting.
• Use it for a bed, a wheelchair, a chair, a car or a pickup from the floor.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

Choose it when they cannot stand and need the head supported during the lift.

• A full-body toileting sling is the one they sit on for a commode opening.
• A sit-to-stand sling is the one when they can bear weight.

Will it fit?

Each size is rated 600 lb (272 kg). We confirm which size fits before you order.

• Small 13220S is 44 in (112 cm) by 35 in (89 cm).
• Medium 13220M is 49 in (124 cm) by 37 in (94 cm).
• Large 13220L is 54 in (137 cm) by 46 in (117 cm).
• Extra large 13220XL is 58 in (147 cm) by 49 in (124 cm).
• Use a 4-point or 6-point cradle. Chains are not required.
• A low car needs 3 or 4 inch casters on the lift.

Using it day to day

• Centre the lift arm and leave the parking brake off while you raise.
• Stand in front to put it on or take it off. A sharp pull can tip them forward.
• On a short move, keep them low, facing you, feet on the base and straddling the mast.
• In the car, unhook the straps. They can stay seated on the sling.
• From the floor, pillow the base for the head and neck, then raise a knee to the hooks.
• Wash warm or cold, up to 185 F (85 C). Non-enzyme detergent, no bleach, not with other colours. Air dry or tumble dry cool, never high.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

• It needs a patient lift whose cradle takes these loops. The lift is not in the box.
• Do not use the lift as a carrier down a corridor, on shag or deep carpet, over thresholds, or outdoors.
• Look under the bed first. Do not drag someone onto the bed if the lift cannot clear it.

Which version should I choose?

Only the cut changes. 13220S, 13220M, 13220L and 13220XL are the same padded U-sling.

• The Drive 13262 is the head-support sling with a different leg cut.

How does it compare?

• This U shape sits with the divided-leg slings. A commode opening or a standing transfer uses the other Drive slings above.
