Description
The Golden BuzzAbout GP164 is a portable power wheelchair that separates into four liftable pieces and reassembles as a captain's seat chair, rated to 300 lbs (136 kg).
What does it do and how does it work?
- Four pieces: front half 29 lbs (13.2 kg), rear half 33 lbs (15 kg), seat with arms 34 lbs (15.4 kg) and batteries 28 lbs (12.7 kg); the heaviest is 34 lbs.
- Disassembly: unplug the joystick, fold the seat back, lift the seat off, pull the battery pack by its handle, then lift the frame off the drive train.
- Drive: 9 in (22.9 cm) flat-free rear tyres, 6 in (15.2 cm) flat-free front casters and 2 in (5.1 cm) anti-tips, so there is no air to check.
- Speed and range: 4 mph (about 6 km/h), up to 11 miles (about 18 km) at 200 lbs (91 kg).
- Seat: a captain's seat 17 x 16 in (43.2 x 40.6 cm) with an 18 in (45.7 cm) back in black vinyl; seat height adjusts through three positions between 21.5 and 23.5 in.
- Controls and lighting: a 40 amp remote controller, electronic speed control, electro-mechanical brakes and freewheel mode, plus motion-sensing LEDs on the footplate and rear handle.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- It suits a rider up to 300 lbs (136 kg) who travels by car and wants a chair that comes apart rather than folds.
- It suits a carer who can lift 34 lbs (15.4 kg) at a time.
- Choose a folding chair for one piece, or a lighter chair if the 124 lbs (56.2 kg) weight matters.
Will it fit?
- Rider: 300 lbs (136 kg); seat 17 x 16 in (43.2 x 40.6 cm), 21.5-23.5 in ground to seat and 18 in (45.7 cm) back.
- Base: 23 in (58.4 cm) wide at the front casters, 36 in (91.4 cm) long and 36.75-38.75 in (93.3-98.4 cm) high.
- Weight: 124 lbs (56.2 kg) assembled; heaviest piece 34 lbs (15.4 kg).
- Ground: 2.5 in (63.5 mm) under-deck clearance, a 28.5 in (72.4 cm) turning radius and a 6 degree slope limit.
Using it day to day
- Charge: plug the off-board charger into the joystick port or directly into the battery pack; 6-8 hours, or 12 hours for new batteries.
- Store: charge the pack monthly, and remove it if the chair will sit for more than a week.
- Transport: never sit in the chair while it is transported; tie the empty chair down with an approved system.
- Freewheel: use it only on level ground.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?

- Warranty: frame 5 years; drive train and electronics 13 months; batteries 1 year.
