The Companion HD GC540 is Golden's 3-wheel heavy-duty scooter, rated 500 lb (226.8 kg), for a rider who wants a wider seat and a tighter turning circle than a 4-wheel gives.
Who is it for?
- Riders up to 500 lb (226.8 kg) who need the 51 in (1295 mm) turning radius a 3-wheel layout gives.
- A wider seat than most scooters carry: 22 in (559 mm) by 20 in (508 mm), with four height positions.
- Indoor and outdoor use on level paths and driveways. It sits on the 3-wheel scooters and heavy-duty scooters lists.
- Not for anyone who lifts it into a vehicle: 225.5 lb (102.3 kg) assembled, with a 101.5 lb (46.0 kg) base, a 50 lb (22.7 kg) seat and arms, and two 37 lb (16.8 kg) batteries.
What has to fit?
- Length 48 in (1219 mm) and width 26 in (660 mm). Measure the doorway and the turning space before you order.
- Ground clearance is 6.25 in (159 mm) at the centre deck and 3.75 in (95 mm) at the motor; the deck sits 8 in (203 mm) off the ground. Front and rear anti-tippers are fitted.
- The seat sits 24.5 in to 27.5 in (622 mm to 699 mm) off the ground, 16.5 to 19.5 in above the deck in four 1 in positions. It swivels 90 degrees each way, 360 in total, and locks for transport.

How far and how fast?
Top speed is 9.7 km/h (6 mph) and the range is up to 25.7 km (16 mi) on the two NF22 batteries. Range falls with rider weight, hills and cold weather.
The tyres are solid and flat-free, so there is no air to check, and rear suspension softens curbs.
Controls and options
- The tiller adjusts through infinite positions and auto-locks. Its LCD console shows battery level and fault codes, and a USB port charges a phone.
- A 120 A controller, electronic speed control, freewheel mode and an automatic sleep mode. LED headlights, tail lights and flashers, plus side reflectors.
- Shroud colours: Crimson Red, Azure Blue or Galactic Grey.
- An optional Captain's chair, 20 by 20 in, with a 6 in power elevating seat for a rider who needs help standing up.
What should I compare it with?
For more stability outdoors, the 4-wheel Companion 4-wheel full size is the same family. If the scooter has to travel in a vehicle, a lighter take-apart model such as the Buzzaround XL 3-wheel suits that better.
Frequently asked questions
Can I charge a phone from the scooter?
Yes. The tiller's USB port charges a phone or tablet, not the scooter.
Are the batteries airline safe?
The airline must approve the scooter and its batteries before you fly. Check the carrier's own rules.
Can I push it if the battery runs flat?
Yes. Freewheel mode releases the drive so the scooter can be pushed by hand.

Warranty details
Golden Technologies warrants the Companion HD 3-wheel (GC540) to the initial consumer, from the date of purchase from an authorized Golden provider, against defects in materials or workmanship.
- Steel frame, frame welds, tiller frame, front fork and seat post: 5 years.
- Transaxle and motor/brake assembly (electrical function): 2 years.
- Controller, dash, wire harnesses, potentiometer and battery charger: 2 years.
- Batteries supplied by Golden: 1 year.
- Bearings, bushings, rubber and plastic parts, seat swivel, armrests and accessories: 1 year.
- Excludes wear items (tires and tubes, motor brushes, brake pads, plastic shrouds, bulbs and fuses, upholstery, armrest pads), misuse, commercial use and exceeding the weight capacity.
- Parts only: labour, service calls and freight are the owner's cost. A warranty registration card must be on file.
