Description
The Golden Technologies Cricket GP302 is a forward-folding carbon fibre power chair for travel and everyday indoor use. It carries up to 300 lb and turns in 22 in.
Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere
- It suits a rider at or under 300 lb who can lift about 33 lb with the battery, joystick, cushion and bag removed.
- The seat is one size, 18 in by 18 in. A wider hip needs another chair.
- Ground clearance is 2.6 in, so it is not a rough-trail base.
- Compare it with other folding power wheelchairs if the lift is too heavy.
Will the Cricket GP302 fit the rider and the vehicle?
- Weight limit 300 lb. Range was tested at 200 lb and reaches up to 9.3 miles.
- Seat 18 in wide and 18 in deep, 19.3 in from the ground, with a 19.3 in back, 16 in from the footrest and 9.5 in from the seat to the arm top.
- Open size is 36.6 in long and 22.4 in wide. It forward-folds and can stand on end once both anti-tip brackets are extended and locked.
- Turning radius is 22 in. The doorway must clear the 22.4 in open width.
How it drives, and what it does not do
- Rear-wheel drive with 8.5 in drive wheels and 7 in casters, all foam-filled and flat-free, plus 1.6 in anti-tip wheels. Never inflate the tyres.
- Top speed is 3.7 mph from a 250 W brushless motor, with a 35 amp Micon controller, electro-mechanical brakes and a freewheel mode.
- The battery is a 12 Ah 24 V lithium pack weighing 3.8 lb, charged by a 2 amp off-board charger. Charge 5-8 hours after each use; the first charge reaches about 90%, and 4-5 cycles bring full capacity.
- It climbs no more than 6 degrees and no curb over 1.5 in. Never back up or down a curb, and remove the battery if the chair will sit unused for more than a week.
Folding, transfers and controls
- To fold, power off, set both freewheel levers to the drive position, push the backrest and pull the latch, then flip the footrest up.
- Stand the folded chair only with both anti-tip brackets fully extended and locked; otherwise it can tip over.
- A seat belt is included. Never use the backrest as a handle to transfer in or out. The joystick USB port charges a phone, not the chair.
How it compares
- The Cricket LT side-folds and is lighter. This GP302 folds forward and uses a 12 Ah pack.
- A lighter carbon travel chair is the Pride Jazzy Carbon.
- See power wheelchairs if 300 lb or a 22 in turn is the wrong fit.
Frequently asked questions
Can the Cricket GP302 be pushed if the battery is flat?
Yes. It has a freewheel mode. Put it in freewheel only when a helper holds the chair, and never sit on it in freewheel on a slope.
Is the 33.2 lb figure the whole chair?
No. 33.2 lb leaves off the battery, joystick, cushion and bag. Assembled weight is 39.3 lb.
What slope and curb can it handle?
Up to 6 degrees and a curb of 1.5 in, driven straight on. Never back up or down a curb.
Does the USB port charge the wheelchair?
No. The joystick USB port is for a phone or tablet. The chair charges from the off-board charger.
Frame warranty is 5 years. Drive train and electronics are 13 months, and the battery is 1 year. Funding may help: see who may help pay, or book a free home assessment.
