Description
The Golden Technologies Cricket LT GP309 is a carbon fibre power wheelchair that side-folds to a 12 in profile and stays on its wheels. It holds 300 lb and turns in 29.5 in.
Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere
- It suits a rider at or under 300 lb who can lift about 26 lb with the cushion, battery and drink holder off.
- The seat is one size, 18 by 18 in; a wider hip needs another chair.
- At 1.25 in clearance, it is not a trail chair.
- Compare other folding power wheelchairs if a 24 in open width is tight.
Will it fit the rider and the vehicle?
- Weight limit 300 lb; range tested at 200 lb reaches up to 9.5 miles.
- Seat 18 in by 18 in, 19 in from the ground, with a 16.4 in back and no headrest.
- Open size is 36 in long, 24 in wide and 33 in to the top of the back.
- Turning radius is 29.5 in; folded, it stands 12 in deep on its wheels.
How does it fold?
- Peel back the seat pad velcro, pull the two strap handles up, then fold the backrest in half and fold each footrest.
- Do not sit on it while folding, and keep hands flat on the seat, away from the frame gap.
- To unfold, press down on the seat edges until the frame locks.
- The battery clips in on two lower tabs and releases by button for charging or storage.
How does it drive?
- Rear-wheel drive with 11 in flat-free drive wheels, 6.5 in front casters and 2 in anti-tip wheels.
- Top speed is 3.7 mph (about 6.0 km/h) from a 35 amp controller, with electro-mechanical brakes and a freewheel mode.
- It climbs no more than 6 degrees and no curb over 1.5 in. Never back up or down a curb.
- The joystick mounts on either arm, and its USB port charges a phone, not the chair.
Seat and comfort
- The memory foam cushion, drink holder and flip-up armrests are standard.
- The seat belt must be used. Never use the backrest, arms or footrest as a handle to transfer in or out.
- Never sit on the chair while it is being transported, or in freewheel mode on a slope.
Battery and charging
- The 10 Ah 24 V pack weighs 2 to 3 lb and carries in its own bag.
- Charge 5-8 hours after each use; the first charge reaches about 90%, and 4-5 cycles bring full capacity.
- If unused for more than a week, charge fully and remove the battery. The charger LED is blue while charging and green when full.
How it compares
- The Cricket GP302 folds forward and weighs more. This LT side-folds.
- A carbon travel chair is the Pride Jazzy Carbon.
- See power wheelchairs if 300 lb or a 29.5 in turn is the wrong fit.
Frequently asked questions
Can the Cricket LT be pushed if the battery is flat?
Yes. It has a freewheel mode. Put it in freewheel only when a helper is holding the chair.
Is the 25.8 lb figure the whole chair?
No. It leaves off the cushion, battery and drink holder; with the memory foam cushion it is 31.3 lb.
What slope and curb can it handle?
Up to 6 degrees and a curb of 1.5 in, driven straight on. Never back up or down a curb.
Frame warranty is 5 years; drive train and electronics 13 months; battery 1 year. Funding may help: see who may help pay, or book a free home assessment.
