Description
The Golden Technologies Stride GP301 is an aluminum folding power wheelchair with comfort-spring suspension and a 23.6 in turn.
Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere
- A rider who can lift 52.6 lb with the battery, joystick, cushion and bag off. We confirm the rider weight rating from the unit's label before you order.
- The seat is one size, 17 in by 18 in. A wider hip needs another chair.
- At 1.6 in clearance it is a pavement chair, not a trail chair.
- Compare other folding power wheelchairs if 52.6 lb is too heavy to lift.
Will it fit the rider and the vehicle?
- Seat 17 in by 18 in, 22 in from the ground, with a 16 in back and no headrest.
- Open size is 42.5 in long, 24.4 in wide and 38.6 in to the top of the back.
- Folded, it measures 15.7 in long, 24.4 in wide and 32.7 in high, and it stands on end for storage.
- It turns in 23.6 in; measure the doorway against the 24.4 in open width.
How does it fold?
- Power off, set both freewheel levers to drive, push the backrest down, pull the latch, fold, then flip up the footrest.
- Both anti-tip brackets must be extended and locked before the folded chair stands on end, or it can tip.
- The padded seat lifts off, the back has a pocket, and under-seat storage holds small items.
How does it drive?
- Rear-wheel drive with 12 in flat-free drive wheels, 8 in front casters and 2 in anti-tip wheels, all foam-filled and never inflated.
- Comfort springs front and back smooth the ride. Top speed is 3.7 mph from a 50 amp controller, with electro-mechanical brakes and freewheel.
- It climbs no more than 6 degrees and no curb over 1.5 in. Never back up or down a curb or a slope.
- Ground clearance is 1.6 in. The joystick USB port charges a phone, not the chair.
Battery and charging
- A 10 Ah 24 V lithium-ion pack weighs 3.8 lb, and the range is up to 9.3 miles (15 km), tested at 200 lb.
- Charge 5-8 hours after each use; the first charge reaches about 90%, and 4-5 cycles bring full capacity.
- If the chair will sit unused for more than a week, charge it fully and remove the battery, then store it indoors.
Using it safely
- Fasten the seat belt before driving. Never use the backrest as a handle to transfer in or out.
- Do not store or operate the chair in rain, snow or below-freezing temperatures.
- Have the chair checked yearly by an authorized Golden provider.
How it compares
- The Cricket GP302 is carbon fibre and lighter. This Stride is aluminum with spring suspension.
- A lighter published travel chair is the Pride Jazzy Carbon.
- See power wheelchairs if the 17 by 18 in seat is the wrong size.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get into the seat?
Power off and take it out of freewheel. Raise the armrests and the footrest, sit, then lower both and fasten the seat belt.
Can the Stride be pushed if the battery is flat?
Yes. It has a freewheel mode. Use it only when a helper is holding the chair.
Is the 52.6 lb figure the whole chair?
No. It leaves off the battery, joystick, cushion and bag. Assembled weight is 58 lb.
Frame warranty is 5 years; drive train and electronics 13 months, and batteries 12 months. Funding may help: see who may help pay, or book a free home assessment to have the seat measured at home.
