The Handicare Mover Plus (53-302) is a non-powered sit-to-stand transfer platform for moving a person between a chair, bed, wheelchair or toilet.
What does it do and how does it work?
The person stands on the platform, holds the crossbar and sits on the fold-down seats while the carer wheels them to the next seat.
- The two half-seats fold up for standing and down for sitting.
- A non-slip marine plywood step and padded shin supports steady the person.
- Handlebars at the carer's side steer the platform.
- Nothing on it is powered: no motor, battery or hand control.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It suits a person who can stand without help, or with minimal help, and who is moving between seats.
- It is not for long periods of sitting or moving.
- For a person who cannot stand, use a patient lift with a sling.
- One carer is the design basis; a clinical assessment decides whether a second carer is needed.
Will it fit?
The platform is 37.0 in (940 mm) long and 24.2 in (640 mm) wide outside, and 40.1 in (1,040 mm) high.
- The seat height is 32.7 in (830 mm), and the step is 15.0 in (380 mm) high.
- The shin supports and half-seats adjust by 25 mm; the 53-329 Extender adds 30 mm of knee-support depth.
- Measure the narrowest doorway and the space beside the bed before ordering.
Using it day to day
Fold up the half-seats, wheel the platform to the person, lock the rear brakes, and let them put their feet on the step with their shins against the supports.
- Let the person hold the crossbar, fold the seats down, and ask them to sit.
- Release the brakes and move to the next seat, then reverse the steps.
- For a toilet transfer, the platform can stay as a support frame while the person sits on the toilet.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
It is for indoor use on flat floors.
- Do not wheel a loaded platform over thick carpet edges, thresholds or other obstacles.
- It is not for direct contact with water, so it is not a shower platform.
- Keep it out of direct sunlight, and repair paint damage to prevent corrosion.
What care does it need?
Wipe it with a damp cloth and a disinfectant detergent after use, or at least daily, and dry it thoroughly.
- Do not use chlorine, phenols, pentanols or other strong detergents.
- Check the seats, step and brakes before each use, and have the platform overhauled once a year.
How does it compare?
- Span F500S: a powered sit-to-stand lift for a person who needs more help.
- Patient lifts: for a full hoist transfer.
