The Span America F500S is a powered sit-to-stand lift with a 500 lb (228 kg) safe working load and a manually adjusted base, distributed through Savaria Patient Care.
Who is it for, and who needs another lift?
- Weight bearing: Savaria says the person should be able to take some weight through at least one leg and take part in rising.
- Full-body alternative: a passive full-body lift such as the F600B.
How does a transfer work with it?
- Rising: the person places feet on the non-slip footplate, settles against the knee pad and holds on while the lift raises them.
- Controls: a hand pendant raises and lowers the lift, with backup controls on the unit.
- Displays: a backlit LCD shows status, and an overload alert stops the lift if capacity is exceeded.
- Emergency lowering: manual, so the person can be lowered without power.
Will it fit your home?
- Closed base: 24.9 in (63.2 cm) outside, 37.5 in (95.3 cm) long, 4.9 in (12.4 cm) high.
- Leg opening: 33.9 in (86.1 cm) inside, which sets what furniture the lift can straddle.
- Bar height: 38 to 60.5 in (96.5 to 153.7 cm) at the spreader bar.
- Measuring: check the doorway, chair and under-bed clearances with the stock unit; a free home assessment can review the room.
Which sling should be used?
- Maker approval: the sling must be approved by its maker for the F500S and rated for the transfer.
- No cross-brand promise: we check the maker's current chart before specifying a sling, and no generic or cross-brand sling is promised.
- Included: the lift, footplate, battery and charger are listed as standard; sling inclusion is confirmed with the order.
Battery, charging and care
- Charging: a plug-in charger is included and charges the battery in place; an off-board charging cradle is optional.
- Checks: keep the footplate and casters clear, and have the carer learn the supplied procedure during setup.

- Model and options: the F500S is the only model; the off-board cradle is optional and slings are quoted separately.

The warranty is 3 years on the frame and spreader bar, 2 years on the electronics and 1 year on the battery.
How does it compare?

Does the charger come with the lift?

Does the F500S come with its own sling?
The standard package lists the lift, footplate, battery and charger. Ask us which sling suits the person and confirm it on the order.
Is the F500S the same lift as the F600B?
No. The F600B is a full-body lift; the F500S is a standing transfer for a person who can take some weight through at least one leg.
