Description
The Harmony HPI-8199 is a full electric home care bed in our homecare beds, with a four-section profiling deck, variable height and an integral bed extender.
Who is it for?
- An adult at home who needs powered head, knee, calf and height adjustment.
- The maximum patient weight is 180 kg (397 lb) and the safe working load is 200 kg (441 lb), including the mattress and bedding.
- A caregiver who will check rail gaps and mattress height when Harmony rails are fitted.
- Not the Harmony Pro, a lifestyle base with no medical rails. Not for a person over the patient limit.
Will it fit the room?
- Height runs from about 10 in (25 cm) at the floor to 25 in (64 cm) at the top.
- Overall length is 2233 mm (88 in), or 2403 mm (94.6 in) with the 170 mm foot-end extension in use.
- Overall width is 946 mm (37 in); the mattress platform is 1982 by 883 mm.
- The bed weighs 86 kg (190 lb) and splits into a head section, a foot section and two bed ends, so two people can move it.
What does it do?
- A 10-button handset runs the head, knee, calf and height, and has a swipe fob lockout.
- The backrest raises to 72 degrees, the knee break to 25 degrees and the calf section to 18 degrees.
- Reverse Trendelenburg tilts to 12 degrees; Trendelenburg is optional on this model.
- Four locking 4 in casters hold the bed, and the transport brackets stay attached.
- An emergency battery backup is available as a retro-fit kit, fitted by the maker or an authorised service agent.
Which mattress and rails are safe on it?
- Match the mattress to the 1982 by 883 mm platform. Harmony's own half rails (APC-8199 HSR) and full rails (APC-8199 FSR) are the approved pair, and both fold down.
- Keep the gap between rail and bed under 60 mm or over 318 mm, and check the distance from the uncompressed mattress to the top of the rail.
- A care team decides whether rails are used. Check the fastenings daily and do not fit another brand of rail.
- Match length on our medical mattresses page and the mattress size guide.
What still has to be chosen?
- The headboard and footboard come with the bed. The mattress does not, and the rails are a choice of half length or full length. We confirm the mattress and rail length before you order.
- See bed rails for the rail category, not a substitute rail.

Frequently asked questions
Is a battery included?
No. The APC-8199 battery kit is optional, and the maker or an authorized service agent fits it after the bed is built.
How often are the rails checked?
Check the fastenings daily, with mattress height and the gap at the rail. A care team decides whether rails are used.
Should I buy or rent?
Buy when the need is long, and use hospital bed rental for a short recovery.
