Span America

Advantage Q-Series Long Term Care Bed by Span America

(3 reviews)

The Span America Advantage Bed is a full-electric long term care bed built in Beamsville, Ontario for residents who need help changing position. Its four DC actuators raise the deck from 7-7/8 in (20 cm) to 30 in (76 cm) while travelling almost straight up, so the frame barely shifts as the bed rises. The welded 35 in x 80 in (89 x 203 cm) grid deck carries a 500 lb (227 kg) safe working load, including the mattress and rails, with a 350 lb (159 kg) patient limit. The 11-function pendant adds auto-contour and Comfort Chair.

What is included?

The base bed is the frame with its welded grid deck, four actuators, control box, 11-function pendant and mattress stops; the mattress, head and foot boards and side rails are separate. Board sets come from the Choose Board Series, Board Colours and Board Size groups, and the Choose Mobility Controls group covers the Q6615 floor lock kit or the 360 degree mobility caster set. Use a mattress made to the 35 in x 80 in deck size; a mattress that does not match the frame sits outside the entrapment guidance. Shop mattresses by bed size.

Description

Span America Advantage is a long term care bed. See long term care beds.

Who is it for?

  • A long term care resident, or a home where a care team has asked for a hospital bed.
  • Safe working load is 500 lbs (227 kg), including the resident, mattress, rails and accessories.
  • The patient limit is 350 lbs (159 kg). Over that, choose a bariatric bed.

Will it fit the room?

  • This QD1000B deck is 35 x 80 in (89 x 203 cm). The 76 in length is a different code, QD1000Y.
  • Deck height is 7-7/8 to 30 in (20 to 76 cm), floor to the mattress support, without a mattress.
  • With a side rail fitted, width is about 40-1/2 in (103 cm).
  • With boards, overall length is about 84-3/4 in (215 cm).
  • Q6709 widens the deck to 42 in and Q6736 lengthens it to 84 in, so the mattress must match.

Which mattress and rails are safe on it?

  • Use a 35 in (89 cm) mattress, 76 or 80 in long, held by corner retainers. None is included.
  • A right-size mattress can still fail the entrapment check, and the facility must confirm the match.
  • Use only Span rails: RAD959, RAD308H, RM930, RM950 and RAD501. See bed rails.
  • A care team decides whether rails are used. The low deck only shortens the distance to the floor.
  • Use our mattress size guide and Health Canada's hospital bed safety page.

Compare

  • PrimeCare P503: a similar low height, with a 425 lb resident limit.
  • PrimeCare P903: a 550 lb resident limit, and the deck can widen to 42 in.
  • Delta 1000: a lighter homecare bed that does not go this low.

Frequently asked questions

Will the bed move when unplugged?

Nothing moves unless the optional Q6681 battery is fitted. Without it there is no crank, and the bed stays put when unplugged.

Can the bed be rolled?

Yes, on four 3 in total-lock casters with the locks off. The bare frame is 160 lbs (73 kg).

What is not in the base bed?

The mattress, rails, trapeze (Q6730) and head and foot boards are separate.

Does the pendant include Comfort Chair?

The 11-function pendant lists Comfort Chair. Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg need the optional Q6674 foot end controller.

We purchased the Span Advantage Bed for my grandmother, and it’s been a great choice. The adjustable features make her daily routine so much easier. The only issue was a slight delay in shipping. Other than that, we’re really happy with the quality!

Got the Span Advantage Bed for my mom after her surgery. It’s really comfortable and easy to adjust. Only issue was the delivery took longer than expected, but the bed itself works perfectly. She’s much happier now. Definitely recommend it!

Michael Reed

Bought the Span Advantage Bed for my dad, and it’s been great so far. The adjustable height is super helpful for his caregiver. Only downside is the bed frame felt a bit heavy to move around. Otherwise, it’s a solid and reliable product!
