Description
The HealthCraft SuperPole with SuperBar (SPB-S) is a floor-to-ceiling pole with a 16 in bar that locks every 45 degrees. It gives upright and horizontal handholds at a bed, toilet, tub or chair. Maximum user weight is 300 lbs, not full body weight.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Pole: 1.5 in steel, white anti-microbial coat, 20 in foam grip; 20 in top plate and 5 in base.
- Bar: 16 in; lift to turn, lower to lock, every 45 degrees.
- Height: 93 to 99 in.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- Lifting: not a hoist; choose a patient lift if the person cannot take their own weight.
- Over 300 lbs: the SPB-HD is a different part rated 450 lbs, fixed to the joists, for 93 to 99 in ceilings only.
- Bedside safety: entrapment risk rises with dementia, confusion, restlessness, frailty or sedation. Never with children or on toddler, bunk, water, electric or inflatable beds, or beds with toppers.
- Shower or another ceiling: use grab bars in the shower and the floor-mounted Advantage Rail where the ceiling will not work.
Will it fit?
- Ceiling: 93 to 99 in; 100 to 120 in with the Uni-Fit Extender at 300 lbs; a custom cut covers under 93 in. The Ultra does not take this bar.
- Joist: the top plate must cross one joist. A Ceiling Plate Extender suits 24 in spacing, and an Angled Ceiling Plate is separate.
- Avoid: radiant ceiling heat, a ceiling whose framing has not been identified, loose floor coverings, direct water and outdoor use.
Using and installing it
- Turn the jackscrew with a screwdriver until the plate meets the ceiling, then 2 to 5 turns; do not overtighten. Fit the jam nut and cover, and inspect monthly.
- Normal use needs no drilling; heavy use means screwing the plate to the joist, and the screws are not in the box. The HD model is always screwed.
- The bar sits typically 24 to 38 in up. Beside a bed, set the collar at mattress top plus 12.5 in, at the waist, and 12.5 in from the head and footboards; keep it tight to the mattress or 12.5 in away. If 12 lbs sinks the edge 2 in, do not use it there.
- Toilet or chair: 3 to 10 in in front of the knees, 2 to 6 in to the side. Tub: base against the tub, about halfway along.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- Accessories: Uni-Fit Extender, Angled Ceiling Plate, Ceiling Plate Extender and custom-cut poles; the SPB-AK bar kit fits an existing SuperPole.
- Warranty: limited lifetime to the original purchaser, on materials and workmanship; misuse, accidents, alterations, wear, rust and corrosive cleaners are excluded. HealthCraft states compliance with ASTM F3186-24.
How does it compare?
- Bariatric SuperPole: 450 lbs, no bar, fixed to the joists.
- All super poles are on the hub page.

Frequently asked questions
How many lock positions are there?
It locks in 8 positions, one every 45 degrees.
Do I have to drill the ceiling?
Not for normal use on the standard pole, as long as the top plate crosses a joist. Heavy use, and every HD pole, must be screwed to the joist.
Can I move it to another room?
Yes. The standard pole is made to relocate. The new spot still needs a joist under the plate.
