Description
The HelpUp, SKU HELPUP, is an inflatable floor lift for a non-injury fall, up to 300 lb (136.1 kg).
What does it do and how does it work?
- Three air chambers rise in stages: 15.5 in (39.4 cm), then 30 in (76.2 cm), then 48 in (121.9 cm). Full height is 55 in (139.7 cm).
- The AirLift pump has a push button and a 30 ft (9.1 m) cord. Fill valve 1 until the surface is taut and the wrinkles are gone, close it, then valve 2, then valve 3 at the head or the foot. Stop at 2.5 PSI (1.7 bar).
- The person and the caregiver each have a handhold. A head support keeps the head in line. The seat is anti-slip.
- It weighs 23 lb (10.4 kg). One person can lay it out, inflate it and pack it into the storage bag.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- Someone who has fallen without an injury and needs help up to a seated position, at or under 300 lb (136.1 kg).
- Do not use it if the fall caused an injury. If the person is unconscious, do not move them unless they are in immediate danger. Call 911.
- For a daily bed, chair or commode transfer, choose a floor lift such as the Hoyer Advance.
Will it fit?
- Inflated size is 55 in (139.7 cm) high, 42 in (106.7 cm) wide and 49 in (124.5 cm) deep. Leave that much clear floor.
- The headrest is 6 in (15.2 cm) high, 10 in (25.4 cm) long and 23 in (58.4 cm) wide. The seat is 13.5 in (34.3 cm) long. Each handle is 7 in (17.8 cm).
- Rolled, it is an 8 in (20 cm) radius and 18 in (46 cm) long. You need a household outlet within the 30 ft cord.
Using it day to day
- To pack it, open the valves and press the air out from the foot end toward the head. The pump can deflate it too. Keep it in the bag between uses.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- It is not a sling lift. See patient lift slings and patient lifts when the person needs a lift every day.
- It does not carry someone down a hall. Use it where they fell, then help them off it.
- A short-term powered floor lift can start with a patient lift rental.
How does it compare?
- The Hoyer Advance is the electric floor lift for repeated transfers, with a sling, when an air cushion is the wrong tool.
- The CARLO Classic is the aluminum floor lift when the person needs a full loop-sling transfer, including from the floor, on a regular day.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use it after an injury fall?
No. If you suspect an injury, or the person is unconscious and not in immediate danger, call 911 and do not move them.
Is a sling in the bag?
No. The bag holds the inflatable lift and the pump. It does not use a sling.
How do I know a stage is full?
Stop when the wrinkles are gone and the surface is taut. Do not go past 2.5 PSI (1.7 bar).
Can one person run it?
Yes. One caregiver can lay it out, run the pump and pack it away.
