HighStar band sling, quilted, items 117402 to 117407

The HighStar quilted band sling holds a leg or an arm while someone dresses a wound, wraps a leg, or washes a foot. Sizes run from junior 117402 to XX-large 117407.

What does it do and how does it work?

It takes the weight of the limb so staff are not lifting that leg or arm by hand.

• Quilted band, rated 650 lb (295 kg) in every size.
• Uses include wound dressing, wound preparation, leg and venous wrapping, foot care and washing.
• A 200 lb person's leg is about 35 to 37 lb. A hand lift is kept to 11.1 lb (5 kg). The sling rating is 650 lb, not 11.1 lb.
• Fold it into thirds or in half, strap under the fabric. Slide it under the limb, such as behind the knee, keep the strap off the skin, then unfold it.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

Choose it for limb care on a bed. It is not a sling for lifting a whole person.

• A larger limb, or a wound you need to stay clear of, can take two band slings.
• A full-body sling is the one for a bed-to-chair lift.

Will it fit?

Six sizes, junior 117402 through XX-large 117407. We confirm the size on the label before you order.

• The 650 lb (295 kg) rating covers every quilted size. Two bands can cover a larger limb.

Using it day to day

Place the band under the limb, keep the strap off the skin, and support the limb while the care is done.

• You can also place it with a log roll.
• Move the bands away from a wound during the procedure if you are using two.
• The hottest wash is 80 C (176 F), and the sling goes in a wash bag. Skip bleach, the iron and dry cleaning. Hang it, or tumble with the heat off. With that care it should last about 2 to 3 years.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

HighStar Healthcare in Mississauga makes it in Canada. The limit is 650 lb (295 kg).

• 11.1 lb is the hand-lift guideline, not the sling limit.

Which version should I choose?

Same quilted band in six sizes. Junior 117402 and small 117403 suit a smaller limb. Medium 117404 through XX-large 117407 suit a larger one.

How does it compare?

• A full-body sling lifts the whole person. The band holds one limb.
