The Joerns Hoyer Journey (HOY-JOURNEY-S) is a powered sit-to-stand lift for a person who can bear some weight and help with standing.
Who is the Hoyer Journey for?
- An assessed sit-to-stand transfer where the person can take some weight and take part in rising.
- A caregiver working in a tight room: the Journey folds without tools and stands when folded.
- It is not a floor-recovery or dependent lift; that need is a floor lift.
How does a transfer work?
- The feet go in the foot tray and the knees rest on the knee pad, set just below the kneecap.
- The sling goes around the back and attaches to the adjustable cradle, and the lift raises the person to standing.
- The transfer is over a short distance only, and a red emergency stop, raise/lower buttons and a mechanical lowering boss are on the control box.
- The Smart Monitor has an LCD, a three-step battery indicator, a redundant UP button and lift-use data.
Will it fit the room?
- The sling attachment point runs 28.4 to 60.2 in (72 to 153 cm).
- Overall length is 36.8 to 39.4 in (93.5 to 100 cm) and height 44.5 to 63 in (113 to 160 cm).
- The turning radius is 45.1 in (1,145 mm), and the knee pad has infinite settings.

Which sling fits?
- Joerns' chart lists the Deluxe Stand-Aid and Deluxe Transport loop slings for the Journey.
- Do not use a passive Full Back sling because the brand is Hoyer; the transfer type is different.
- A fitter chooses the size; the lift's 341 lb (155 kg) limit governs even if the sling is rated higher. See sling choices.
Battery and charging
- A detachable battery pack charges on a desktop charger and stand.
- A full charge takes about four hours, and the manual advises keeping the battery charged rather than running it flat.
- We supply and fit replacement batteries: replace battery.
What is in the box?
- The lift, battery pack, hand control and desktop charger and stand.
- A sling is not confirmed in the standard package, so we quote one with the lift.

Funding may help: see who may help pay.
How do delivery, setup and service work?
We deliver, assemble the lift, charge the battery, fit the sling and practise a standing transfer with the person and carer. See patient lifts in Toronto or service.
The warranty is 2 years on mechanical and electrical parts and 15 years on the structural welds.
How does it compare?
- Hoyer Advance: a passive floor lift for a fully dependent transfer.
- Sit to stand lifts: the wider range.
- Deluxe Stand-Aid sling: the charted sling family.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Journey's safe working load?
341 lb (155 kg); some retailers round it to 340.
Is a sling included?
Not confirmed in the standard package, so we quote the charted sling separately.
Does it fold without tools?
Yes, and it stands upright when folded.
Can it lift someone from the floor?
No. It is a sit-to-stand aid, not a floor-recovery lift.
