Invacare Solace 1080 Mattress SPS1080, 36 x 80 x 6 in

The Invacare Solace Prevention 1080, part SPS1080, is a foam mattress replacement for a standard 80 in hospital bed deck, rated 350 lbs (159 kg).

What does it do and how does it work?

A single foam layer with a convoluted fortress cut spreads weight across three zones.

• The head and heel sections are softer, for the two areas that take the most pressure.
• Invacare states the surface is designed to help minimize the risk of pressure injuries by distributing the weight as uniformly as possible.
• The sleeping surface is 70 denier nylon. The underside is a fluid-resistant 11 oz tri-laminate vinyl.
• No pump or power is needed. The mattress works as soon as it is on the deck.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It suits a standard 80 in deck where a foam surface is enough.

• A nurse, doctor or therapist decides which surface suits the person's skin and risk.

Will it fit?

It is 36 x 80 x 6 in (91 x 203 x 15 cm), so it fits an 80 in deck and nothing longer or shorter.

• A shorter deck leaves an overhang, and an 84 in deck needs a longer mattress.
• The mattress must fit the frame and rails snugly. Health Canada recommends gaps under 120 mm (4.75 in) in zones 1 to 3 and under 60 mm (2.375 in) in zone 4. See bed rails.

Using it day to day

Wipe the top and bottom covers after each use.

• Remove the bedding, wipe both covers with an organic cleaner or soapy water, then use a quaternary, phenolic or 8 to 10% bleach solution.
• Do not open the zippered top cover, autoclave it, or use iodine cleaners, which stain the fabric.
• Inspect the mattress inside and out every 3 months, and remove it from service if a part is damaged.
• Check compression with a straight edge. Past 25%, replace the mattress.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

Use the lower of 350 lbs (159 kg) and the bed's own limit.

• It replaces the mattress; it is not an overlay.
• The foam is warranted 5 years and the cover 1 year, to the original purchaser, if the cleaning and 3 month inspection are kept. Labour and shipping are not included.
