Description

The Invacare Universal High (2483777 small, 2483778 medium, 2483779 large) is a padded polyester full body sling whose high back supports the head during a reclined transfer.

What does it do and how does it work?

Colour-coded loops hook onto the spreader bar, and their length sets the body position.

  • Short shoulder loops with long leg loops give an upright transfer; the reverse reclines the body.
  • Polyurethane padding spreads pressure under the back and legs.
  • It attaches at 2 or 4 points, with loop colours matched left and right.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It suits a completely or partly immobile person with limited hip, trunk and head control.

  • It moves a person from bed to chair, up from the floor, or from one seat to another.
  • Choose a lower sling if the person has good head and trunk control and can sit upright.
  • Arms stay inside. The High Plus keeps them outside.

Will it fit?

Size follows the person's build and the sling's length and width.

  • Small: 1080 mm (42.5 in) by 845 mm (33.3 in).
  • Medium: 1425 mm (56.1 in) by 1000 mm (39.4 in).
  • Large: 1555 mm (61.2 in) by 1120 mm (44.1 in).
  • Tell us the height, weight and build and we confirm the size.

Using it day to day

Slide the sling behind the seated person to the mid marker at the base of the spine, then bring each leg strap under the thigh.

  • Cross the straps for security, leave them uncrossed for toileting, or run them outside the thighs for an amputee.
  • Attach shoulder loops first and check both sides before lifting.
  • Take the sling out after each transfer.
  • Wash at 90 C (194 F) or less, do not bleach, tumble dry low and do not iron. Check straps and stitching before each use, and have the sling inspected at least every 6 months.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

It fits lifts with a hook spreader bar and 2 or 4 connection points.

  • Small, medium and large are rated 200 kg (441 lb); the lowest limit in the system wins.
  • A professional risk assessment comes before use on another maker's lift.
  • Keep it away from heaters and smoking.

Which version should I choose?

Only solid polyester is sold here. Net suits bathing and spacer is breathable; neither is sold here.

How does it compare?

Frequently asked questions

What if the sling and lift have different limits?

The lower rating governs the whole system, bar included.

Which way should the leg straps go?

Crossed for security, uncrossed for toileting, outside the thighs for an amputee.

Can it stay under the person after the transfer?

No. Take it out after each move.
