Description
The JAY Swing-Away Lateral Thoracic Support is a side pad and bracket for a JAY back. Sunrise Medical makes a standard style and a Rotational style. Left and right are ordered separately.
What does it do and how does it work?
It holds the trunk from the side.
- Standard adds depth where it sits on the back.
- Rotational pivots the pad to a trunk curve, including scoliosis.
- Two locking pivots give 100 mm (3.9 in) of travel. The Rotational style adds two more pivots.
- A push-button lever swings the pad aside for a transfer.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It suits a rider whose trunk leans to one side. It is not a back or a cushion. See wheelchair cushions for the pelvis.
Will it fit?
Pads are 4 or 6 in deep (10.2 or 15.2 cm) and 4, 5 or 6 in high (10.2, 12.7 or 15.2 cm). The bracket mounts inside or outside the shell. We confirm the JAY back model, the side, and standard or Rotational before you order.
Which version should I choose?
Choose standard for a flat pad. Choose Rotational when the pad must angle to the trunk. A fixed lateral does not swing away.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
It fits a JAY back. The steel bracket comes with the lateral, and the back does not. On a J3, laterals are not offered on a lower thoracic shell.
How does it compare?
The JAY J3 back is one shell this lateral can mount on. Other trunk and head pads are in positioning supports. The wider range is in wheelchair accessories.
Frequently asked questions
Which pad size should I pick?
Pads are 4 or 6 in deep and 4, 5 or 6 in high. Left and right can use different sizes.
When is Rotational the better style?
When the pad must angle to a trunk curve. The standard style stays flat and adds depth at one spot.
Which cover comes on it?
A 3DX cover and pad are standard. Stretch, premium leatherette and reverse Dartex are JAY Your Way options.
