Description
The JAY J3 is Sunrise Medical's contour wheelchair back. Sunrise describes it as the most versatile back in its JAY line, with a lightweight shell in five contour shapes, four height groups and widths from 12 to 26 in.
Choosing a contour
The Posterior shell gives 2.2 in of lateral support, the Posterior Lateral 3 in and the deep shells 6 in. On the maker's comparison scores the deep shells rate highest for lateral stability and the Posterior the lowest.
Choosing a height
Heights come in four groups: lower thoracic at 6.5, 8 or 9.5 in, mid thoracic at 12, 13.5 or 15 in, upper thoracic at 16.5, 18 or 19.5 in, and shoulder height at 21, 22.5 or 24 in. Send the torso measurements on the seating quote form.
Hardware and fitting
Hardware comes in RH, SH, TH and 4-Point styles, with 20 degrees of angle adjustment and +2 in of width adjustment, for frame tubing of 3/4 to 1 1/8 in. Not every style fits every shell size. Ask our service department about fitting.
Cover, care and weight limits
The cover is a spacer fabric with a Lycra stretch outer layer and machine washes warm with the foam out; the shell is wiped, never soaked. Check the fasteners every six months. It carries 300 lbs at 12 to 20 in and 500 lbs at 22 to 26 in.
