Description

The Joerns Deluxe 500 is an open-cell memory foam mattress for a hospital or homecare bed. It is rated 500 lbs (227 kg) and comes in flat and raised-sidewall versions.

What does it do and how does it work?

It uses open-cell memory foam, with a firm perimeter for edge stability.

  • The open-cell foam allows more airflow.
  • The firm perimeter supports getting in and out of bed.
  • The raised-sidewall version adds 2 in (5 cm) around the perimeter.
  • Average mattress weight is 23 lbs (10 kg).

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

Joerns recommends the Deluxe 500 for prevention and treatment of up to stage 2 pressure injuries.

  • The person's nurse, doctor or therapist decides which surface suits their skin and risk.
  • Choose the raised version if the bed needs a perimeter, or a flat code if not.
  • Choose another surface above 500 lbs (227 kg) or if the care plan needs powered therapy.

Will it fit?

Match the size to the deck and the height to the rails.

  • Lengths are 76, 80 or 84 in (193, 203 or 213 cm); widths are 35, 36, 39 or 42 in (89, 91, 99 or 107 cm).
  • Flat codes are 6 in (15 cm) high; raised-sidewall codes are 8 in (20 cm).
  • Capacity is 500 lbs (227 kg); the lower of that and the bed's safe working load applies.
  • Health Canada advises gaps under 120 mm (4 3/4 in) in zones 1 to 3 and 60 mm (2 3/8 in) in zone 4. Joerns states the mattress meets entrapment guidance when used on a Joerns bed frame.
  • A used mattress cannot be returned under our return policy.

Using it day to day

Place it on the deck and make the bed as usual.

  • There is no pump, hose or power cord.
  • Check the cover and seams for tears before use.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

It fits a hospital or homecare bed of matching size.

  • It is not powered and does not alternate pressure or provide low air loss.
  • The raised perimeter is foam, not a bed rail.
  • It does not change the bed's limit.

Which version should I choose?

Choose a flat PDF code or a raised-sidewall PDS code in your size.

  • Flat, 6 in: PDF3576SZ500CA (35 x 76), PDF3580SZ500CA (35 x 80), PDF3680SZ500CA (36 x 80), PDF3584SZ500CA (35 x 84), PDF4280SZ500CA (42 x 80), PDF4284SZ500CA (42 x 84).
  • Raised sidewalls, 8 in: PDS3580SZ500CA (35 x 80), PDS3584SZ500CA (35 x 84), PDS4280SZ500CA (42 x 80).

How does it compare?

The Elite-G 500 is a different Joerns foam mattress. The stretch zipper cover is a replacement cover. A powered alternating mattress adds active therapy. See foam mattresses.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between PDF and PDS codes?

PDF codes are flat and 6 in high; PDS codes have 8 in raised sidewalls.

Does the raised sidewall prevent falls?

Joerns states it aids fall prevention and reduces entrapment risk; it is foam, not a rail.

Does it need power?

No. It is foam with no pump, hose or cord.

Is the Basic the same mattress?

No. The Basic is rated 300 lbs; the Deluxe is rated 500 lbs (227 kg).
