Description
The Joerns Elite-G 500 is an open-cell foam mattress in ten size names, flat or with raised sidewalls, rated 500 lbs (227 kg) for a care-bed deck.
What does it do and how does it work?
Air moves through the open cells. Joerns connects that build with a cooler, drier surface and with pressure redistribution. The perimeter is firm so the edge stays steady during a transfer.
Raised sidewalls are separate codes. Joerns says that taller border aids fall prevention and lowers entrapment risk on a Joerns bed frame. Measure the rails anyway.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
Joerns recommends the family for prevention and treatment of pressure injuries up to stage 2. The care team decides if this foam matches the person's skin and risk. Stay at or under 500 lbs (227 kg).
Pick something else for a 300 lb Basic mattress, for the three-code Elite-G 600, or for the Deluxe 500. A 39 in width is a family option and is not sold here.
Will it fit?
Flat size names are 6 in (15 cm) thick: 35 x 76, 35 x 80, 35 x 84, 36 x 80, 42 x 80, and 42 x 84 in. That is 89, 91, or 107 cm wide and 193, 203, or 213 cm long.
Raised-sidewall size names are 8 in (20 cm) thick: 35 x 76, 35 x 80, 35 x 84, and 42 x 80 in. Measure the made-up bed. Openings should stay under 120 mm (4 3/4 in) inside each rail, beneath the rail, and where the rail meets the mattress. See bed rails.
Using it day to day
Turn the person toward the firm edge for a transfer. The foam family averages about 23 lbs (10 kg), and a wider or longer code weighs more. There is no pump to set and no battery to charge.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
Use it on a hospital bed deck that matches one of the ten size names. The raised-sidewall claim is tied to a Joerns bed frame. Another frame still needs the rail gaps checked after the linen is on.
These codes are the mattress only. Rails, a low-air-loss pump, and an overlay are separate choices.
Which version should I choose?
Flat codes, named 6 in (15 cm): PEGF3576SZ500CA, PEGF3580SZ500CA, PEGF3584SZ500CA, PEGF3680SZ500CA, PEGF4280SZ500CA, and PEGF4284SZ500CA. Raised sidewalls, named 8 in (20 cm): PEGS3576SZ500CA, PEGS3580SZ500CA, PEGS3584SZ500CA, and PEGS4280SZ500CA.
How does it compare?
The Elite-G 600 is three 80 in codes, chosen by width and by flat or raised perimeter. The Deluxe 500 is the other Joerns foam line at the same 500 lb rating. More options are under foam mattresses.
Frequently asked questions
Is a 39 in width one of these codes?
No. Widths here are 35, 36, and 42 in. A 39 in Elite-G is not in this set of ten.
Where do the 6 in and 8 in figures come from?
They are the size names on this offer: 6 in flat and 8 in with raised sidewalls. Match the name to the deck.
Can I add raised sidewalls to a flat code later?
No. Raised sidewalls are their own codes. Pick PEGS when the deck is meant for that taller edge.
Is the 300 lb figure this mattress?
No. 300 lbs (136 kg) is the Basic foam mattress. Elite-G on this offer is 500 lbs (227 kg).
