Medline's MDS400EL is an electric floor lift rated to 400 lb (181 kg), with a manual base and a removable battery pack.
What does it do and how does it work?
- The lift raises and lowers a person in a sling and rolls on casters to the bed or chair.
- The base is manual, so the legs open without a powered control.
- The control panel shows the battery charge level.
- The battery pack lifts out and charges off the lift.
- The lift lowers to floor height, so it can pick up a person who has fallen.
- An emergency release lowers the person smoothly if the battery dies.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It suits a carer who moves a person of up to 400 lb (181 kg) and needs a powered floor lift with a manual base.
- A person above 400 lb (181 kg) needs a higher-capacity lift; Medline's MDS600EL is rated 600 lb (272 kg).
- A carer who cannot work a manual base needs a powered base, such as the MDS450EL.
- A home that must fold the lift away needs a folding model, such as the Hoyer Advance.
Will it fit?
The capacity is 400 lb (181 kg). The base is manual, and the lift lowers to floor height for a fallen person.
- We measure the bed height, the space under the bed, the doorway and the turning space before a quote.
- Check the sling's rating against the person's weight; use the lower of the two limits.
Using it day to day
- Charge the battery off the lift and check the charge level on the control panel.
- Use the emergency release if the battery fails during a lift.
- Inspect the sling for fraying or wear before each use.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
It takes Medline's MDSMELSCALE 700 lb (317 kg) scale, which fits between the boom and the spreader bar.
The 400 lb (181 kg) capacity is the lift's limit; never exceed it or the sling's rating. The sling and scale are separate.
How does it compare?
- The Hoyer Advance folds and is rated 341 lb (155 kg), a lighter lift for a home that stores it between uses.
- The Beka Carlo has a powered leg spread and comes in 185 kg (407.9 lb) and 230 kg (507 lb) versions.

Frequently asked questions
Can the lift work with a flat battery?
No. A flat battery cannot lift, and the emergency release only lowers. Charge the pack before each use.
Which sling should I use?
Use one rated for at least the person's weight and approved for the lift's spreader bar. Ask us before pairing another maker's sling.
Does it need a track or ceiling work?
No. It is a mobile floor lift on casters, so nothing is fixed to the room.
