Savaria's Monarch portable ceiling lift, item M929001, is an 11 lb (5 kg) motor that runs on a ceiling track and carries up to 440 lb (200 kg).
What does it do and how does it work?
It lifts a person from a bed or chair, and the motor can move between tracks.
- The SureClip sling clip opens outward, so the loop sits in the clip instead of being pushed in.
- A hand control raises and lowers the lift; the on/off switch also works as an emergency stop.
- The motor weighs 11 lb (5 kg), so one person can carry it.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It suits a person who needs help moving from a bed or chair at home.
- For a multi-room system, a fixed ceiling lift stays on its track.
- Where no track is fitted, the Savaria Gantry gives it a freestanding track.
Will it fit?
The ceiling, the track route and the person's weight decide the fit.
- The lift carries 440 lb (200 kg), and the sling must match that rating.
- The ceiling and the track route are checked at the free home assessment.
- On the gantry, the frame needs floor space beside the bed.
Using it day to day
Charge the battery after use and check the sling before each transfer.
- A charge takes about 2 hours and gives about 30 lifts of 24 in (61 cm) at 440 lb (200 kg), or 80 at 200 lb (91 kg).
- The battery lasts about 5 years, and the lift about 10 years with one battery replacement.
- The hand control is IP67 and the lift IP21.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
It works with the maker's slings, tracks and gantry, up to 440 lb (200 kg).
- The SureClip takes universal, hygienic, hammock, repositioning and walking slings from Handicare and Silvalea.
- The maker lists ISO 10535:2021 and CAN/CSA Z10535.1:15 certification.
- Mobility installs the track across Toronto and the GTA; it is a separate installation.
What does the warranty cover?
Savaria covers the lift for three years, including the battery. See the warranty terms.
How does it compare?
- The Handicare C450 is a fixed ceiling lift that stays on its track.
- A floor lift moves between rooms without a track.
Frequently asked questions
Can the motor move between rooms?
Yes. It lifts off one track and can be carried to another, or run on the Savaria Gantry.
Does it need a ceiling track?
It needs a track or the Savaria Gantry. The free assessment checks which one fits the room.
Which sling families clip onto it?
Savaria lists universal, hygienic, hammock, repositioning and walking slings from Handicare and Silvalea.
Funding help for a ceiling lift in Ontario
March of Dimes Canada's Home and Vehicle Modification Program may consider ceiling track lifts for eligible Ontario residents; it is income-tested, needs an occupational therapist's assessment and must approve the purchase first.
WSIB may consider a lift for a worker whose workplace injury requires one, and Veterans Affairs Canada may cover transfer and lift devices for eligible Veterans with a prescription.
A private health plan may pay part of the cost, and we prepare the quote these programs ask for. See March of Dimes funding and our funding guide, or call (905) 798-1853.
