This is the Handicare Mover Plus 53-302 manual transfer platform, listed here under its own Mobility item code. It is a non-powered platform for moving a person who can stand between a bed, chair, wheelchair or toilet.
What does it do and how does it work?
The person steps onto the platform, holds the crossbar and sits on the two seat pads while a carer wheels it to the next seat.
- The half-seats fold up for the stand and down for the seated move.
- The step has a non-slip marine plywood surface, and the shin supports are padded.
- The carer steers by the handlebars.
- No part of the platform is powered.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It is for a person who can stand without help, or with minimal help, and is moving between seats.
- It is not for long periods of sitting or moving.
- For a person who cannot stand, a hoist is the right choice: see patient lifts.
- A clinical assessment decides whether one or two carers are needed.
Will it fit?
The platform is 37.0 in (940 mm) long, 24.2 in (640 mm) wide outside and 40.1 in (1,040 mm) high.
- The seat height is 32.7 in (830 mm) and the step height is 15.0 in (380 mm).
- The half-seats and shin supports adjust by 25 mm; the 53-329 Extender adds 30 mm of knee-support depth.
- Check the narrowest door and the space beside the bed.
Using it day to day
Fold the half-seats up, wheel the platform in, lock the rear brakes and let the person put their feet on the step.
- Let them hold the crossbar, fold the seats down and sit.
- Release the brakes, move to the next seat and reverse the steps.
- Keep the platform level, and do not wheel it over thresholds or thick carpet edges.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
It is for indoor use on flat floors.
- It must not have direct contact with water, so it is not a shower platform.
- Keep it out of direct sunlight and repair paint damage to prevent corrosion.
- It is not a powered sit-to-stand lift and takes no sling.
What care does it need?
Wipe the frame with a damp cloth and a disinfectant detergent after use, or at least daily, and dry it.
- Do not use chlorine, phenols, pentanols or other strong detergents.
- Check the seats, step and brakes before each use and have it overhauled once a year.
How does it compare?
- Span F500S: a powered sit-to-stand lift for a person who needs more help.
- Sit-to-stand lifts: the powered range.
