After doing some research, we decided to go with the Nexus 3 Walker for my father. It’s been great for his balance and mobility, and he loves the seat for when he needs to rest. The only downside is that the walker feels slightly heavy when folded, but it’s manageable.
Description
The Nexus 3 Rollator Walker from Human Care Canada, parts 470018 Super Low, 470022 Low and 470024 Standard, is a cable-free four-wheel rollator rated to 441 lb (200 kg).
What does it do and how does it work?
- The seat has a foam cushion, and the padded backrest flips both ways.
- A soft zippered bag holds up to 11 lb (5 kg).
- The brakes are cable-free: squeeze to slow down, push the red ball down to lock and pull up to release.
- Four 8 x 1.2 in (20 x 3 cm) wheels carry a frame of 18.5 to 19.0 lb (8.39 to 8.62 kg) by size.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- It suits someone who walks indoors and outdoors on even ground and wants a seat for rest stops.
- It is not a wheelchair: never move it while someone is seated.
- For a lighter indoor frame, the Nexus One has smaller wheels and a lower user limit.
Will it fit?
- Seat height picks the size: Super Low 19 in (48 cm), Low 22 in (56 cm) and Standard 24 in (61 cm), floor to the seat pan.
- Handles run 30.5-34.1 in on the Super Low, 30.5-36.5 in on the Low and 32.5-39.8 in on the Standard.
- All sizes are 23 in (58 cm) wide, with 17.5 in (45 cm) between the handles.
- Measure the narrowest doorway and the crease behind the knee; our free home assessment checks both.
Using it day to day
- Pull up the seat strap in the middle of the seat to fold, and use only that centre handle; it stands folded with the bag on.
- Do not squeeze the brake for the whole walk: that wears the brake pad and the tyre.
- Do not use the brake handles to sit or stand, and keep fingers away from the brake and the push handle.
- Sit evenly with the back of your legs against the seat, and do not hang weight on the back strap.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- A cup holder, slow-down brakes, curb climber, tray, hard basket and seat cover are optional.
- The warranty is five years on the frame and one year on parts; wear is excluded and a yearly dealer inspection is required.
How does it compare?
- The Nexus One is the lighter, indoor frame with 6 x 1.2 in wheels.
- The Wide Nexus 3, parts 479022 and 479024, is a black-only model for a heavier user.
- Our 4 wheel rollator range lists the other frames, including the Evolution Trillium.
We deliver and set up across Toronto and the GTA, setting the seat height with you. Our service team handles repairs and the yearly inspection.
