Permobil Somn Mattress SOMN3680, 36 x 80, 350 lb

The Permobil Sömn mattress, model SOMN3680, is a non-powered layered foam mattress for a long-term care or home bed. Its standard size is 36 by 80 by 6 in.

What does it do and how does it work?

• The 4 in (10 cm) base and 2 in (5 cm) top layer make it the firmer of Permobil's two Signature foam mattresses.
• A Serene foam section at the heel is lower density than the rest of the top layer.
• 3 in (8 cm) transfer edges on both sides give a firm edge for sitting and transfers and help keep the person centred.
• The Startex full enclosure cover is fluid resistant and multi-way stretch.
• There is no pump, no air cells and no power.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

• A person whose care team has chosen reactive foam and who needs a firmer surface.
• A bed with a 36 by 80 in deck in a long-term care setting or at home.
• The person's nurse, doctor or therapist decides which surface suits their skin and risk.
• Choose a powered surface if the person needs alternating pressure or low air loss.

Will it fit?

• The standard size is 36 by 80 by 6 in (91 by 203 by 15 cm).
• It is rated to 350 lbs (159 kg). The bed frame has its own limit, and the lower one applies.
• Custom sizes are available; other widths and lengths need their own order codes.
• Check the deck and the rail gaps with the mattress in place. Health Canada recommends gaps under 120 mm (4 3/4 in) in zones 1 to 3 and under 60 mm (2 3/8 in) in zone 4.

Using it day to day

• The full enclosure cover zips around the foam; wipe it with the cleaner your facility uses.
• Check the cover and seams at each bed change, and replace the cover if it is torn.
• Follow the care plan for turning and repositioning; the foam does not replace it.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

• It is a replacement mattress only; the bed, rails and sheets are separate.
• The 350 lb rating is for the mattress, not the bed frame.
• It is not a modular Adapt surface, so ROHO or Vicair sections are not part of it.

Which version should I choose?

• SOMN3680 is the 36 by 80 in standard.
• SOMN3980, SOMN4280 and SOMN4880 are the 39, 42 and 48 in wide builds.
• Custom sizes are made to order.

How does it compare?
