Description
The Pride PX4, model SC134, is a four-wheel heavy-duty outdoor scooter rated 500 lb (226.8 kg), with full suspension, a memory foam seat and NFC key-fob ignition.
What does it do and how does it work?
- A 24-volt DC motor drives the rear wheels through a sealed transaxle at up to 14.97 km/h (9.3 mph).
- Two 12-volt 75 Ah batteries give up to 38 km (23.6 mi) per charge, less on hills or with a heavier rider.
- Full suspension and 13 in pneumatic tires on split rims smooth asphalt, gravel and hard-packed paths.
- A water-resistant LCD console sits on the delta steering wheel, and an NFC key fob starts the scooter.
- Nine colours, including four camo patterns, are made; the seat comes in 18 in (457 mm), 20 in and 22 in widths, and a hardtop canopy is optional.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- It suits a heavier rider who rides outdoors from home.
- Choose a travel scooter if you must lift it into a car; the PX4 does not disassemble and weighs 351.4 lb (159.4 kg).
- Choose a power wheelchair if you need postural support or pressure relief.
Will it fit?
- Length 55.9 in (1420 mm), width 27.05 in (687 mm), turning radius 82.28 in (2090 mm).
- Ground clearance is 3.5 in (89 mm) at the motor and 4.4 in (112 mm) at mid-deck.
- It does not fold or come apart, so plan a ramp, a lift or a van.
- A free home assessment can measure your doorway against 27.05 in (687 mm).
Using it day to day
- Charge 8-14 hours before the first ride, and 8-14 hours after each day of use, plus 4 more after the charger shows complete.
- Used weekly or less, charge at least 24 hours a week, with 48 continuous hours once a month.
- Plug the charger into a wall outlet, never an extension cord; the scooter cannot be driven while charging.
- Squeeze the handbrake 5-7 times before a ride, and use the freewheel lever to push it on level ground.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- The batteries are two 12-volt 75 Ah sealed lead-acid units, 48.8 lb (22.1 kg) each; replace both together.
- Use only the supplied 8 amp off-board charger.
- It is rated IPX4 for splashes. It does not meet ISO 7176-19 and is not a seat in a moving vehicle.
- The frame is covered for life, the drivetrain and electronics for 2 years, and the batteries for 6 months; upholstery, tires, brake pads and labour are excluded.
How does it compare?
- The Pride Pursuit XL carries 400 lb (181 kg), turns in 82 in (208 cm) and also does not come apart.
- The Pride Victory 10.2 splits for a car but tops out at 8.4 km/h (5.2 mph).
Frequently asked questions
Can I leave the charger plugged in after it shows complete?
Yes. Pride recommends 4 more hours; the charger maintains the charge without overcharging.
How do I push it when the battery is flat?
Pull the freewheel lever and push it on level ground, never on a slope.
Can I charge a phone from the scooter?
Yes. A USB charger port is built into the tiller console.
