Description
The Pride Pursuit XL (SC714) is the largest Pursuit: 400 lbs (181 kg), a one-piece frame, and batteries sold separately.
Who it suits, and who should choose something else
- A heavier rider who wants suspension, 13 in pneumatic tires and a long test range, with a garage, a ramp and a van or lift.
- The main frame is 205.5 lbs (93.2 kg) with the seat and batteries off. It does not come apart. See travel scooters if you must lift one.
- Turning radius 82 in (208 cm); a three-point turn wants about 83 in (211 cm) of corridor. That is wide for a hallway or an elevator.
- If you need a tighter indoor scooter, the Pursuit 2 turns in 69.3 in and includes a lithium battery.
Check the size and the slope
- Length 56.25 in (143 cm). Width 27.25 in (69 cm). Without batteries it weighs 259.5 lbs (117.7 kg), and 369 to 380 lbs with two batteries.
- Ground clearance 5.25 in (13.3 cm) under the frame and 2.75 in (70 mm) under the motor; obstacles up to 4 in (100 mm).
- Slope up to 10 degrees. Top speed up to 12 km/h (7.5 mph).
- Never ride it as a seat in a moving vehicle. Load it empty, on a ramp or lift rated for the weight. See portable ramps.
Batteries are not included
- Two 12 V AGM or gel batteries: Group 24 (75 Ah), range up to 35.6 km (22.1 mi), or Group 27, range up to 47.5 km (29.5 mi). Both figures were tested at 400 lbs.
- Charge 8 to 14 hours before first use and after each day's use, then 4 more hours once the charger shows full. Used weekly or less, charge 24 hours weekly and 48 continuous hours monthly. New batteries reach full capacity after four or five cycles.
- The charger plugs into the lower tiller; the scooter will not drive while it is charging. We replace worn batteries.
- The seat swivels, slides and has a reclining back.
Everyday use and care
- The delta tiller has a key switch, speed dial, battery meter, horn, turn signals, a light switch and a switch that picks the left or right throttle lever. Keep the console dry.
- Anti-tip wheels are fitted; reverse is slower than forward and the scooter powers down after 20 minutes idle.
- Check tire pressure weekly and have it serviced yearly. Store it charged, dry and disconnected, and squeeze the handbrake 5 to 7 times before riding after storage.
Compare
- Pursuit ES: 350 lbs, a choice of 6 mph or 9.5 mph, batteries also sold separately.
- Eclipse Interceptor: 450 lbs, and it also stays in one piece.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Pursuit XL still sold in Canada?
Pride Canada still lists it. The US site has withdrawn it. Call us if you need parts later, so we can check supply.
Do I have to buy the larger batteries?
No. Group 24 or Group 27 are both valid. The longer range figure is only for the Group 27 pair.
Is the handbrake the park brake?
No. Releasing the throttle sets the disc park brake. The hydraulic handbrake adds stopping power.
