Description
The ProBasics BSTBP is a padded transfer bench that straddles the bathtub: two legs inside the tub, two on the floor, so the person sits down outside and slides across instead of stepping over the wall.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Padded seat and back: vinyl over 1.25 in (3.2 cm) of open-cell foam.
- Reversible back, so the person can enter from the left or the right.
- Angled legs adjust in 1 in (2.5 cm) snap-button steps, with no tools.
- Wide-based non-skid tips with suction cups hold the inside and outside legs.
- Anodised aluminium frame, corrosion proof, with tool-free assembly.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It suits someone who can sit and stand but cannot step over the tub wall safely. Choose a bath board if the person can step in unaided, the 12005KDC-1 if a commode opening is needed, or a bariatric bench if the frame must be wider.
Will it fit?
- Measure the flat inside floor of the tub, its inside width and the wall height, plus the floor space outside.
- The two inside legs need a flat tub floor, the tub wall must sit below the seat, and the outside legs need level floor.
- Set the outside legs first, then the inside legs, so the seat sits level.
- The suction cups grip a smooth tub floor; clean the floor before pressing them down. A free home assessment will measure the tub.
Using it day to day
- Sit on the outside half, swing the legs over the wall, then slide across to the inside half.
- Turn the back to the end the person enters from.
- Adjust each leg in 1 in (2.5 cm) steps and check all four tips touch the floor.
- Wipe the vinyl seat and back, and dry the suction cups between uses.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- The bench has no commode opening; it is for bathing and transfers only.
- It is one size, in grey padding on a silver frame.
- Drive packs this bench two per case.
- We confirm the weight limit with Drive before you order.
How does it compare?
- Drive 12005KD-1: a padded A-frame bench that adjusts in half-inch steps.
- Drive 12005KDC-1: the same bench with a commode opening.
- Transfer benches: the full range.
Frequently asked questions
Which side does the back fit?
Either. The back reverses for a left or right hand transfer.
How do I level the seat?
Set the outside legs first, then the inside legs, and check the seat with a level or by eye.
Does it have a commode opening?
No. This is a plain padded bench; the 12005KDC-1 has the opening.
How do the suction cups hold?
They press onto a clean, smooth tub floor and hold the inside legs in place.
