Description
The Quickie Q50 R Carbon is a carbon fibre folding power chair from Sunrise Medical that weighs from 32 lbs (14.5 kg) without its battery, so one person can lift it into a car.
Who is it for?
- A rider up to 300 lbs (136 kg) who wants one chair for the pavement, the shops and the car.
- A rider on smooth ground. It is not an all-terrain chair and has no suspension.
How does it fold and travel?
- Flip the rear clip, fold the footplate and push the back down; the battery stays on. Folded: 14.5 x 22.5 x 30 in (369 x 572 x 762 mm).
- A standard strap holds it folded, and rear anti-tips let it stand and roll.
- Air travel: IATA approved under UN3171. Charge the battery to at most 30%, disconnect it, stow it in the spare compartment and pack the chair in its original box; the airline decides.
- In a vehicle: it is not crash tested and is not a vehicle seat; fix the folded chair in place.
How does it drive?
- Rear drive with 8.3 in (210 mm) solid drive wheels, 6.5 in (165 mm) solid casters, 250 W brushless motors and an nVR2 controller.
- Top speed is 6 km/h (4 mph). It climbs a 6 degree (10.5%) slope and 40 mm (1.5 in) obstacles, clears 70 mm (2.75 in) and stops in 1 m.
- The carbon frame flexes over uneven ground but there is no suspension; it turns in 31.5 in (800 mm).
Will it fit?
- The seat is 17 by 16.5 in with 18.3 in back and 19.5 in seat to floor; armrest pads adjust 7.5-12.6 in and the legrest drops 16.1 in.
- The chair is 22.4 in (570 mm) wide and 36.3 in (923 mm) long; measure the narrowest doorway and the car boot.
- JAY Basic, JAY GO and JAY X2 cushions fit; we carry powerchair batteries separately.
Battery and range
- One 10 Ah, 24 V lithium-ion battery weighs 3.1 lbs and gives 12 km (7.2 miles); a second battery slot doubles that to 24 km (14.5 miles); the second battery and charger are options.
- Charge on or off the chair through the controller socket or battery port. Charge after every use, give the first charge 24 hours, and for storage over 15 days charge fully and disconnect the lead.
- Range falls in the cold: about three quarters in light frost and half below -5 C (23 F).
What are its limits?
- Stay within 300 lbs (136 kg), keep to pavement, treat the 24 km range as a maximum and never use the chair as a vehicle seat.
