Description

The Quickie Q500 H is a rear-wheel power wheelchair from Sunrise Medical, model EIPW32, with a hybrid drive position and six-wheel independent suspension.

What does it do and how does it work?

  • Hybrid drive: the drive wheels sit forward of a conventional rear-wheel base for a 25.5 in (64.8 cm) turn, with rear-wheel traction.
  • Six wheels: fixed front casters and active rear anti-tips keep all six wheels on the ground.
  • Suspension: six-wheel independent suspension absorbs thresholds and uneven ground.
  • Motors: 4-pole motors with 10 seconds of power boost, metal gears and larger cooling fins.
  • Speed and range: 6 mph (9.7 km/h) standard, 5 or 8 mph optional; up to 17.7 miles (28.5 km) with Group 24 batteries.
  • Electronics: a VR2 or R-Net controller, with optional Bluetooth and infrared control.
  • Transit: occupied transit tie-down brackets come standard.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

  • It suits a rider up to 300 lbs (136 kg), or 350 lbs (158.8 kg) on the HD line, who wants rear-wheel stability with a tighter indoor turn.
  • It suits a rehab build with SEDEO PRO or Captain seating.
  • Choose a mid-wheel Quickie Q500 M for an 18.5 in (47 cm) turn.
  • Choose another base over 350 lbs (158.8 kg).

Will it fit?

  • Rider: 300 lbs (136 kg), or 350 lbs (158.8 kg) on the HD line.
  • Seating: 16-22 in (41-56 cm) wide and deep on the SEDEO PRO; Captain 16, 18 or 20 in wide and 16-22 in deep; seat height 16.5-19 in (42-48 cm).
  • Base: 24.5 in (62.2 cm) wide, 36 in (91.4 cm) long without footplates; 25.5 in (64.8 cm) turning radius.
  • Ground: 3 in (7.6 cm) clearance; 13 or 14 in drive wheels; 9 in front and 4 in rear casters.

Using it day to day

  • Charge every night with the controller off: charger into the joystick socket, then the wall; 6-8 hours, 8-12 after a full drain.
  • Charge indoors only, with a Sunrise-approved charger.
  • Transport it forward-facing with a four-point strap system at two front and two rear points; attach the front straps first.
  • Never carry a passenger in a vehicle, and do not tie down by the armrests or anti-tip brackets.
  • Batteries: two 12V gel deep-cycle, sealed and maintenance free; do not fit car batteries.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

  • Stay within 300 lbs (136 kg), or 350 lbs (158.8 kg) on the HD line.
  • The HD line uses the same model number, so confirm the build before you order.
  • Elevate is not available with tilt.
  • Warranty: frame 5 years; parts and batteries 1 year.

Which version should I choose?

  • Seating: SEDEO PRO or Captain, with manual recline, 50 degree power tilt, power legrest and 12 in (30.5 cm) elevate.
  • Electronics: VR2 or R-Net; Bluetooth and infrared control are optional.
