Description
The Quickie QX (model EIF6) is a lightweight folding manual wheelchair with an aluminum frame and a rear axle plate fixed front to back. It carries up to 300 lbs (136 kg) and folds side to side to travel in a car.
Who is it for, and who should choose another chair?
- An adult who pushes themselves on indoor floors, carpet, concrete and asphalt. It is not built for sand, loose soil, rocky ground or the street.
- To tune wheel position, the Quickie QXi has an adjustable axle plate; it cannot be added to a QX later.
- Pushed by a companion: a lighter transport chair.
- Needs tilt for posture or skin: see tilt-in-space wheelchairs. Over 300 lbs: bariatric wheelchairs.
Check the fit
- Measure hip width, hip to knee and knee to heel while seated in your usual shoes; your therapist or our free home assessment turns these into the order.
- Front seats below 14.5" (36.8 cm) need the hemi frame, for propelling with your feet. The 12.5" and 13" heights also need 60-degree hangers and angle-adjustable footplates.
- Rear seat height follows the wheel: 12" to 16" on 20", 15" to 19" on 26".
- Footrests must stay at least 2" (5 cm) off the floor, and the longest seat-to-footrest setting is 16.5" (41.9 cm).
- The 21" and 22" widths cannot take EXO or tension-adjustable back upholstery.
- Overall width and folded size follow the seat width and wheels you choose.
Safe use
- Fit a cushion on the sling before use; the sling gives no pressure relief. Armrests and cushions are separate choices.
- Anti-tip tubes are recommended, and casters of at least 5" (12.7 cm) roll over half-inch bumps.
- Wheel locks hold only when they press 1/8" (3 mm) into the tire; low tire pressure lets them slip.
- Never lift it by the armrests or footrests.
- Dry the chair after rain or slush: moisture can corrode the tubing from inside.
How does it compare?
The Motion Composites Move covers low and standard seat heights on one frame, with a lower standard limit. See all Type 2 wheelchairs.
Frequently asked questions
Can I stay seated in it in a vehicle?
Only with the WC19 transit option; otherwise move to a vehicle seat and secure the empty chair out of the front seat.
Is it an ultralight wheelchair?
No; it is a lightweight chair. Its 28 lbs (12.7 kg) weight has no stated reference build, so ask for the weight of your configuration.
Can I push it with one hand?
A one-arm-drive axle plate is offered on 24" spoke wheels, for frames 14" to 19" wide.
