Description

The Drive 11114KD-1 is an aluminum shower chair and commode: a 16 by 16 in (41 by 41 cm) padded seat on four 3 in (7.6 cm) casters, rated 300 lbs (136 kg).

What does it do and how does it work?

  • Three uses: a shower chair, a bedside commode with the bucket and lid, or an over-toilet chair with the splash shield.
  • Padded vinyl seat 16 by 16 in (41 by 41 cm), open at the front.
  • Four 3 in (7.6 cm) swivel casters, two locking; they fit in any position.
  • Aluminum frame, 14 lbs (6.4 kg), with plastic arms and a back that lifts off without tools.
  • 12 qt bucket with a lid, plus a splash shield for over-toilet use.
  • Fixed seat height of 21 in (53 cm); no footrests.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It suits someone who needs a light shower chair and commode that can be moved between the shower, the bed and the toilet. Choose the NRS185007 for a rehab chair with a wider seat, a tilt chair if the person cannot sit upright, or the NRS185008 over 300 lbs (136 kg).

Will it fit?

  • Seat 16 by 16 in (41 by 41 cm); check the person and the bathroom route.
  • Seat height is fixed at 21 in (53 cm); measure the height the person is used to.
  • Over a toilet, check the bowl and tank sit inside the frame.
  • The 3 in casters can be stopped by a shower curb; measure the curb. A free home assessment can measure the bathroom.

Using it day to day

  • Assembly: side frame on the floor, centre frame on the brass pins (front receiver first, then the back), then the backrest; pull each joint back to check the pin is locked.
  • Lock the two locking casters before the person sits or stands.
  • For bedside use, fit the bucket and lid; for the toilet, place the splash shield on the bucket rails.
  • Wipe the vinyl seat and back, and empty and rinse the bucket after use.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

  • 300 lbs (136 kg), for sitting; it is not a standing aid.
  • It has no footrests and does not fold as a frame; it knocks down for storage.
  • It is not a transport chair.
  • The back is a fabric panel, so dry it after shower use.
  • Limited lifetime warranty, casters excluded; see the Warranty tab.

How does it compare?

  • NRS185007: 275 lbs (125 kg), an 18 in (46 cm) seat and 5 in (13 cm) casters, with a swing-away footrest.
  • NRS185008: 500 lbs (227 kg) and a 22 in (56 cm) seat.
  • Shower commodes: the full range.
