Span-America Geo-Mattress with Wings Foam Mattress

The Span-America Geo-Mattress with Wings is a foam mattress with an 8 in raised perimeter around a 6 in centre. It has no pump.

What does it do and how does it work?

• Span says the raised sides cradle the person and gently urge them away from the edge.
• The 8 in sides also fill the gap between the mattress surface and the bottom of a side rail.
• A lowered, padded opening at the transfer point makes getting in and out easier.
• The top is Geo-Matt segmented foam, 2 in deep, with more than 800 cells and Ring-of-Air channels.
• The Heel Slope tapers at the foot to shift load to the lower legs.
• The cover wipes clean and resists fluid, with a bacteriostatically treated top and a hidden zipper.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

• Span lists its primary use as prevention of skin breakdown, for people at fall risk from getting out of bed on their own, and for people with decreased mobility.
• The person's nurse, doctor or therapist decides which surface suits their skin and risk.
• Choose a powered air surface if the care team asks for alternating pressure or low air loss.

Will it fit?

• Three sizes: W7535-29 (75 x 35 in), W7835-29 (78 x 35) and W8435-29 (84 x 35).
• All are 6 in (15 cm) in the centre and 8 in (20 cm) at the sides.
• The mattress is rated to 400 lbs (181 kg); the bed's limit may be lower.
• Health Canada recommends rail gaps under 120 mm (4 3/4 in) in zones 1 to 3 and under 60 mm (2 3/8 in) in zone 4. Test this mattress with the rails in place.

Using it day to day

• Wipe the cover with the cleaner your facility uses; the hidden zipper opens it for cleaning.
• Check the cover, zipper and foam edges at each bed change.

• The three sizes differ only in length; every one is 35 in wide.
