Description

The Handicare OneWaySlide, items 2075, 2076 and 2077, is a chair mat. A caregiver uses the handles to move someone farther back, or a little to the side, while the person stays seated.

What does it do and how does it work?

The mat glides backward and resists sliding forward.

  • ULF (ultra low friction) under the seat is the sliding layer. A non-slide area holds the person from moving forward.
  • Six handles sit on both sides and at the back. Grasp one, or loop it around the wrist.
  • Straps tie the mat to the rear frame tubing of a wheelchair. It is not a lifting sling.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

  • For someone who slides forward in a chair or wheelchair and needs help moving back.
  • Not for lifting. If the person cannot sit up, use a lift and a sling.
  • A more active user may prefer the tube-shaped OneWaySlide, which has no handles.

Will it fit?

All three mats are 51.1 in (130 cm) long. Width and safe working load change with the item number.

  • Item 2075: 15.7 in (40 cm) wide, 330 lb (150 kg).
  • Item 2076: 17.7 in (45 cm) wide, 330 lb (150 kg).
  • Item 2077: 21.6 in (55 cm) wide, 440 lb (200 kg).
  • We confirm the width before you order. The widest mat is rated to 440 lb (200 kg).

Using it day to day

  • Set the open section toward the chair back, with the top up on the backrest, and tie the straps to the rear frame.
  • One caregiver pulls back when the person can lean forward and balance. Use two if the person is heavy or the back is high.
  • Raise the feet to unload the thighs. After washing, discard a worn or faded mat. No fabric softener, and avoid the tumble dryer.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

Leave it in the chair. It repositions the person. It does not move someone into bed.

  • A person of 400 lb is over the 330 lb (150 kg) mats. Item 2077 covers up to 440 lb (200 kg).
  • Press-test the handles and buckles. Retire the mat if a seam or a handle fails.
  • With normal use it is expected to last up to 10 years. Wash temperature is on the sewn label.

Which version should I choose?

  • 2075 or 2076 for a narrower chair, at or under 330 lb (150 kg).
  • 2077 for 21.6 in (55 cm) of width, or a load up to 440 lb (200 kg).

How does it compare?

Frequently asked questions

Does the OneWaySlide glide both ways?

No. It glides backward. The non-slide area resists a slide toward the front of the chair.

Can one caregiver move someone back in the chair?

Yes, when the person can lean forward and keep their balance.

Why is item 2077 rated higher?

It is the wide mat, rated 440 lb (200 kg). Items 2075 and 2076 stop at 330 lb (150 kg).
