Description
The Span PressureGuard Topper cover assembly, part CLT-MEM36, is the fitted air cover for a pressure-redistributing mattress. Control unit 2100 is sold separately.
What does it do and how does it work?
Span indicates The Topper, used with a pressure-redistributing surface, to help prevent and treat skin breakdown and pressure ulcers through stage 4 by moving excess heat and moisture.
- An inner air layer sends a steady flow of air under a vapour-permeable outer layer, using an Air Diffusion Matrix.
- The outer layer zips off. It is fluid-resistant, anti-fungal and bacteriostatically treated.
- Fitted corners and a bottom strap hold it on the mattress.
- The cover does not move air until control unit 2100 is connected.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It suits someone who already has a sound pressure-redistributing mattress and needs help with heat and moisture at the surface.
- A nurse, doctor or therapist decides whether a microclimate cover is the right addition.

Which version should I choose?
The rating follows the width.
- CLT-MEM36 is 80 x 36 in and CLT-MEM8436 is 84 x 36 in, each up to 500 lbs (227 kg).
- CLT-MEM42 is 80 x 42 in, up to 750 lbs (340 kg).
- CLT-MEM48 is 80 x 48 in and CLT-MEM8448 is 84 x 48 in, each up to 1,000 lbs (454 kg).
Will it fit?
Measure the mattress. CLT-MEM36 is 80 in long and 36 in wide (203 x 91 cm).
- The cover adds a layer on the mattress, so a rail may clear the sleeping surface by less.
- Health Canada recommends gaps under 120 mm (4.75 in) in zones 1 to 3 and under 60 mm (2.375 in) in zone 4, and warns that air surfaces compress. See bed rails.

Using it day to day
Hook the corners and the bottom strap, then connect control unit 2100 at the footboard.
- Wipe the cover in place with a hospital-grade cleaner.
- Unzip the outer layer, machine wash it and air dry. Wipe the inner air layer.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
Use it only on a pressure-redistributing mattress. Take the lower of the width rating, that mattress limit and the bed limit.
- Without control unit 2100 the cover does not move air. The powered system is certified to IEC 60601-1-11.

How does it compare?

Frequently asked questions
Does CLT-MEM36 include the control unit?
No. Control unit 2100 and the carry bag are separate. This part is the fitted air cover.
Can the whole cover go in the washer?
Only the outer layer. Machine wash that layer and air dry it. Wipe the inner air layer.
Will it work with no mattress under it?
No. It straps over a pressure-redistributing mattress. It is not a mattress by itself.
