Description
The Permobil Halsa Plus 48 in is an electric adjustable home care bed with a 48 in (122 cm) platform, half side rails and Natural wood head and foot boards. It is the widest Halsa.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Separate Linak DC motors move the back to 62 degrees, the knee to 30 degrees and the platform from 9.875 in (25 cm) to 25.625 in (65 cm).
- A 10-button pendant controls back, knee, both together, the whole bed, and Trendelenburg to 10 degrees.
- The platform expands from 36 in (91 cm) to 39 in (99 cm), 42 in (107 cm) or 48 in (122 cm) with a release button.
- Three casters lock, the fourth is directional, and a large caster set is optional.
- Hooks carry an incontinence bag, two IV holder stems and a trapeze bar; the frame breaks into four pieces.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- Home care and care rooms for a person up to 500 lbs (226 kg) who needs a wide, adjustable bed.
- Choose the standard 36 in Halsa if the person fits: it is lighter and takes full side rails.
Will it fit?
- Platform: 79 in long by 36 in wide (201 by 91 cm), expanding to 48 in (122 cm).
- Overall length with the boards is 88 in (223 cm).
- Height is 9.875 in (25 cm) to 25.625 in (65 cm) floor to mattress support; the mattress adds its thickness.
- The mattress is sold separately; use one matched to the 48 in deck, held by the side and foot retainers.
- Measure the doorway and turning space for the expanded width; a free home assessment checks the room.
Using it day to day
- Plug it into a 120 V, 60 Hz outlet, and apply the brakes before a person gets in.
- To move the bed, lower it, flatten the platform and leave the rails raised.
- The optional battery backup needs 48 hours to charge.
- Unplug before cleaning; household or hospital detergents are fine, but no high-pressure water, steam or submerging.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- Half side rails are included and swap between head and foot. Full rails fit only the 36 in standard bed.
- Options include rail pads, large casters, a battery backup, and a trapeze bar rated 300 lbs (136 kg).
- Trendelenburg reaches 10 degrees each way, and the bed is not for pediatric use.
- Health Canada advises checking the mattress size and type before rails are used.
Which version should I choose?
- Halsa widths are 36, 39, 42 and 48 in; the standard bed carries 375 lb and Plus widths 500 lb.
- This is the 48 in Plus package with half side rails and Natural boards; narrower packages use narrower decks and mattresses.
How does it compare?
- Joerns WeCare: a super-low full-electric bed that goes lower than the Halsa.
- Drive 15005LP: a 36 in bed with a 9.25 to 23 in deck, a little lower and much narrower.
Frequently asked questions
Can I fit full side rails?
No. Full rails fit only the standard 36 in Halsa; this frame takes half rails or an assist bar.
Is the mattress included?
No. Choose a 48 in mattress; the side and foot retainers hold it in place.
What happens in a power outage?
A battery backup is optional. If fitted, charge it 48 hours and test it with the pendant.
