Description
The BIOS Living orthopedic cane, item 56018, is a black single-tip cane with an angled soft grip.
What does it do and how does it work?
The grip is angled and shaped for the palm, so it puts less stress on the wrist and the hand.
- One button sets the height from 31 to 39 in (79 to 99 cm), in 1 in (2.5 cm) steps.
- The shaft is aluminium. The limit is 265 lb (120 kg).
- That limit is lower than the BIOS offset cane and the BIOS J-handle cane, both rated to 300 lb (136 kg).
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It suits someone who wants a shaped grip for one-sided balance, and who is within 265 lb (120 kg).
- Over 265 lb (120 kg), this cane is the wrong limit.
- A wrist under 31 in (79 cm) or over 39 in (99 cm) will not land on this range.
- One tip does not stand when you let go.
Will it fit?
With your arm hanging, the angled grip should meet the wrist. An elbow bend is normal.
- Move one hole at a time with the button until the grip is at the wrist.
- A second person may need to check that height while you stand still.
Using it day to day
Hold the shaped grip and set the rubber foot down before you shift weight onto that side.
- There is no wrist strap on this model. The BIOS offset cane is the one with a strap.
- A spare tip and the ice-pick attachment are separate items.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
This order is the black cane only. The warranty is 1 year.
- The ice pick is not in the box.
- Copper item 56017 is the other colour, not this cane.
Which version should I choose?
Stay with item 56018 when you want the black shaft.
- Copper item 56017 is the same orthopedic cane in the other colour.
How does it compare?
A higher limit, a hook handle, or four tips means a different cane.
- BIOS offset cane, coffee: a wrist strap and a 300 lb (136 kg) limit, height 31 to 39 in (79 to 99 cm).
- BIOS J-handle cane: a foam hook, 33 to 37 in (84 to 94 cm), rated to 300 lb (136 kg).
- BIOS quad cane: a four-point base, handle 29 to 38 in (74 to 97 cm).

Frequently asked questions
Is copper item 56017 the same grip?
Yes. It is this orthopedic cane in copper. Item 56018 is the black one.
Why is the limit 265 lb, not 300 lb?
This model is rated to 265 lb (120 kg). The BIOS offset cane is the one rated to 300 lb (136 kg).
Does the copper cane carry more weight?
No. Copper item 56017 is the same cane, still rated to 265 lb (120 kg).
