Description
The Drive Medical RTL6045 is a 30 in (76 cm) wooden transfer board with a cut-out handle at each end. It is for transferring to and from a wheelchair, with the person sliding across while seated.
What does it do and how does it work?
It forms a short bridge between two seats, so the person slides along the board instead of standing up.
- The wood is Baltic birch, finished with clear lacquer.
- Both ends taper, and every corner is rounded.
- There is a cut-out handle at each end.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It suits a person who can sit up and take some weight through the arms, with a carer helping.
- It is for transferring to and from a wheelchair.
- Choose a patient lift if the person cannot bear weight or has to be lifted.
- For bathing, choose a bathroom safety seat or bench instead.
Will it fit?
The board is 30 in (76 cm) long and rated 440 lb (199.6 kg).
- Both seats should be at about the same height, and the board must rest flat on both.
- Leave clear floor space beside the wheelchair for the carer to stand.
Using it day to day
Lock the wheelchair, set the board across both seats, help the person slide across, then lift the board away.
- Wipe it dry after use and check the ends and handles for cracks before each transfer.
- Store it flat and out of damp; do not use a split or warped board.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
It carries one person at a time up to 440 lb (199.6 kg).
- It is a transfer aid, not a ramp, step or lifting device.
How does it compare?
The RTL7047 is the wider bariatric board, 35 by 8 in, rated 600 lb (272 kg). The EasyGlide is a plastic sliding board for seated transfers, and two of its sizes fold.
The RollerSlide is for a person who stays lying down. Its cover moves with them between a bed and another flat surface. RTL6045 is the 30 in wood board for a seated wheelchair transfer.
Frequently asked questions
Is RTL6045 the 24 inch board?

Can it be left in place between transfers?
No. Take it away after the transfer; it is not a seat or a cushion.
Does it include straps or a slide sheet?
No. One board is supplied; straps, slide sheets and the wheelchair are separate.
Drive Medical gives the board a limited 6 month warranty; see the Warranty tab.
