Description
The Drive RTL12000 is a toilet safety frame with padded arms: an anodized aluminum frame that bolts under the toilet seat with a powder-coated flange and gives a padded support on each side.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Mounting: remove the seat bolts, fit the flange with its bracket tube closest to the tank, replace the seat and bolt through the seat and flange with the original nuts.
- Arms: padded, and they slide into the bracket and lock with built-in snap buttons.
- Height adjusts in 1 in (2.5 cm) steps; the width adjusts to two positions, 19 to 23.50 in (48.3 to 59.7 cm) between the arms.
- Anodized aluminum frame, 4 lb (1.8 kg), rated 300 lb (136 kg).
- One frame per box; Drive packs four per case.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It suits someone who needs a padded arm on each side of the toilet and has accessible seat bolts. Choose the 12001-4 for plastic armrests, the RTL12079 if the seat bolts cannot take a frame, the AquaSense 770-665 for hinge bolts and floor legs, or a grab bar for a wall fixing.
Will it fit?
- The frame fits under the seat on the toilet's own seat bolts; check they are accessible and sound.
- Width between arms is 19 to 23.50 in (48.3 to 59.7 cm) in two positions; check the space and any raised seat that must sit between the arms.
- The bracket tube must face the tank when the flange is fitted.
- A free home assessment can check the toilet and the fit.
Using it day to day
- Install the flange and seat as above, then slide the rails into the bracket and check every snap button is engaged.
- Set the width and the arm height before the person uses the frame.
- Do not stand on the frame; it is a handhold for sitting and standing.
- Wipe the frame and pads, and check the seat bolts and snap buttons now and then.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- 300 lb (136 kg), for sitting and standing support.
- It is not a free-standing frame and does not stand on the floor.
- It is not a wall grab bar.
- The frame uses the toilet seat bolts, so a toilet without accessible bolts needs a free-standing frame.
How does it compare?
- 12001-4: the same maker's frame with plastic armrests.
- RTL12079: free-standing, with a 21 in gap between the arms and a magazine rack.
- Toilet safety frames: the full range.
