Description
The Drive Toilet Safety Frame 12001-4 is a 300 lb (136 kg) aluminum frame that mounts under the toilet seat and puts a handhold on each side.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Handholds: anodized aluminum side frames with grey plastic armrests.
- Mounting: a powder-coated aluminum bracket sits on the bowl under the seat and is held by the toilet's own seat bolts and nuts; its tube faces the tank.
- Width: the arms set in two positions, 18.5 to 22.75 in (47 to 58 cm) apart or 18 to 22 in (46 to 56 cm) apart.
- Height: built-in snap buttons set the arms in 1 in (2.5 cm) steps, with no tools.
- Assembly: C clips join the angled tubes to the side frames, then the rails slide into the bracket and click in.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- It suits a person who wants a handhold on both sides of the toilet when sitting and standing.
- It suits a toilet with a bolted seat, because the bracket reuses those bolts.
- Choose RTL12079 if the seat cannot be unbolted; it stands free around the bowl.
- Choose a wall grab bar for a handhold beside a fixed wall.
Will it fit?
- Check that the toilet seat is held by two bolts; the bracket's holes line up with them under the seat.
- Measure the clear floor each side of the bowl for the two legs, and the space in front of the seat for the arms.
- If the bathroom is tight, book a free home assessment and we measure it.
Using it day to day
- Remove the seat, fit the bracket with its tube at the rear, refit the seat and tighten its bolts.
- Press each snap button to set the arm width and height, then check that every button has sprung out.
- Check the seat bolts and the snap buttons before each use.
- The frame stays fitted to the toilet; it is not a rail you carry between bathrooms.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- The frame is rated 300 lb (136 kg) and is a handhold, not a step or a seat.
- It does not attach to the wall and does not raise the height of the seat.
- The armrests are hard plastic; the padded version is RTL12000.
- Limited lifetime warranty; see the Warranty tab.
How does it compare?
- The RTL12000 uses the same bracket and adds padded arms.
- The RTL12079 needs no seat bolts and carries 300 lb (136 kg).
- The AquaSense 770-665 bolts at the hinge and is rated 250 lb (113 kg).

Frequently asked questions
Does the frame come with new seat bolts?
No. It reuses the toilet's original seat bolts and nuts, so keep them when you take the seat off.
How many frames come in a box?
Drive packs item 12001-4 four to a case. We confirm before you order whether you are buying one frame or the case.
Can I take the arms off to clean the toilet?
Yes. Press the snap buttons and slide each rail out of the bracket; the bracket stays under the seat.
